Lockett, Wilson, Blue I voted.  Lockett obviously has the scoring experience, Wilson is capable of putting up more points especially with Crowder gone and our 2 centers hopefully taking the 5
I still think Blue has more to offer than he's showed us and I'm hoping he unleashes it.

There is a lot of worry about scoring points this year, but the more I look at it the more I think this team is going to be pretty good offensively.

Agreed. This team likely won't have any dominant scorers like we've seen in recent years (Crowder, DJO, Butler, Hayward, McNeal) but has a plethora of guys that can get points on any given night. I expect Lockett to lead the way with around 14 ppg, but after that, there are quite a few guys that can have an impact. I think that will make us a very difficult team to prepare for. I know a lot of people are looking to 2013-14 as our breakthrough year, and with good reason, but with Cadougan stirring the drink and having so many options around him, I think that 2012-13 could be our most successful so far under Buzz, and I realize just how much I'm saying when I say that.

Yeah this year could be a fun ride. Sucks that we play a team like OSU and then Maui so early as we have to gel quickly. I really expect the team to hit it's stride by Big East play. We will be tough to guard with so many guys that can score and are athletic while doing it.

I went Lockett, Gardner and Mayo more because we know Todd is our best shooter and will get a lot of the looks from outside and Davante is instant offense. I feel there could be a lot of games where Jamil does all the other things to help the team without scoring in bunches like the other 2 can.

That is my guess as well.  Gardner is my only lock.  He will get the minutes and he will score.  I think Lockett is close to a lock.  He scored a decent amount of points at ASU and it has been well documented about how slow a pace they played,  but he also played 35 minutes a game.  IMO the 3rd leading scorer will be either Mayo or Wilson.  Mayo has a great chance because he has a scorers mentality and is fearless.  If Wilson decides he wants to be more of a scorer this season,  he could easily be in the top 3.  It's up to him.

This comment, along with MUEagle's earlier comment about the team pretty good offensively, is how I've been thinking about things. There will be loads of options, and it is likely that different guys will step up or be hot different nights. And, there seems to be more new blood in terms of leadership, playing time and the like. The pre-conference season might be less successful than recent years, but I'm guessing (hoping?) that the team will gel in BEast play and have a solid end of the year.

As for the thread, I'll go with Lockett, Wilson and Gardner, as I anticipate that those guys will be the most consistent of the crowd of scorers.

He averaged 13 points per game last year in a terribly slow offense. Doubt he averages less as a senior in an up-tempo offense, and I don't see three other players average 14+ points per game. Lockett will be top 3.

I think Vander will be a double digit scorer as I think he may lead the team in minutes played along with Cadougan and possibly Jamil Wilson.

I his defense is bad, then you could see any of the others Bebout MVP - but this year is all about having a Better 8-man rotation than just about anyone we face.

This is very well put.  If we can get either Steve Taylor or Juan Anderson to be remotely serviceable as a substitute, we are going to have a very nice team with balanced scoring.  Perhaps even better defensively than last year too.

I think Gardner has our best returning offensive stats--I'm not sure if I'd go so far as to call him our best offensive player.  I think he benefitted quite a bit from the presence of DJO and Crowder.  

The three scenarios that lead to easy Gardner scores are still question marks this year:
--1. DJO's dribble penetration beating his outside defender, forcing a defensive shift to cover the middle that left Gardner open
--2. Crowder spotting up outisde, drawing an inside defender away from the middle, leaving Gardner less well defended
--3. 3-point shooting led by DJO and Crowder, who combind for over 2/3 of our made 3 point shots and were able to bring defenders outside--opening up the middle and making life easier for Gardner.

The first scenario may not be as much of an issue--Mayo and to a lesser extent Blue can probably come close to what DJO did.

I'm more concerned about teams being able to pack the middle due to weak outside shooting.  Crowder could easily pull his man outside--but Jamil Wilson only made 10 three point shots all season. We're counting on Mayo to anchor our outside shooting, but he was only a 24% shooter in Big East play.

If we can establish a credible outside shooting threat, then Gardner will be the primary scoring benificiary (as will the 3 point shooters, obviously). If we can't, then I see more of our scoring punch coming from our guards.

MU played more games, but it surprised me looking at last year's stats that both DJO and Crowder took twice as many total shots as Lockett did last year.

I can see Junior being Number 3 or 4 scorer on the team this year..
