You do realize that Memphis was one of the schools who just posted a perfect APR score right? Our student athletes are expected to take their studies seriously.
We'll be a valuable academic asset to the Big East come next season.

Just want to make sure they can read above a 2nd grade level.

Gwen: What were you doing up there?
Van Wilder: As smashed as I am, I'm pretty sure that was my room...
Van Wilder: [looking back]
Van Wilder: Wasn't it?
Gwen: What was that girl, a freshman?
Van Wilder: She reads at a sophomore level.

Blah blah meaningless trolling crap blah blah

WTF is wrong with you? Why come to another team's site, dredge up a freaking 6-week-old thread, and start trolling? Not only that, but clearly you don't know a damn thing about this site, or you'd comprehend the meaning of teal (and no, I don't expect you to be around long enough to make it worth explaining). Get back to us when you're actually a Big East team...until then, stop wasting our time by Hooping old threads.

Silkk the Shaka

Can someone PM me the Tarik Black recruiting details?  Hadn't heard that one before.

How does one make a joke about Memphis' academics without being disrespectful to the "semi-literate" individual it admitted?

Oh yeah....

"I was like, 'Holy crud, I can't believe how many kids are reading below a seventh-grade level,'" he says. For Mr. Luckey, the question is how many of those students to let in. "What we've all got to decide," he says, "is what's our breaking point?"

Let me help you out, Mr. Luckey... the answer is ZERO.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Josh Pastner is an honorable man. He is the anti-Calipari. Whereas the program was ALL about John Calipari when he coached at Memphis, it has been all about the players and assistant coaches since Josh has been here. In no way shape or form do you have any proof that Josh Pastner's assistants have engaged in shady recruiting practices.

The "all-about=me" Calipari almost won the NCAA title for y'all.

No D-Rose, No Cal = No Pastner and no stronger bball progra,

Have I said ANYTHING hateful towards Marquette basketball? Nope....didn't think so. So you can come off your highhorse...i am not trolling.
I am defending my school, just like you would be....if I had said something insulting or disparaging towards your school...which I won't do, cuz I have a ton of respect for Marquette.

No, I wouldn't, because I wouldn't feel the need to join another school's site to drag up six-week dead arguments. Do you really have nothing better to do with your free time than search back in the databases to find out what we were saying in May?

Ok, so how'd you find this thread, anyways?  Especially as it has been dead for 6 weeks.  I'm sure we'd be less... questioning... if we understood.

Memphis is a basketball school. Who is to say they couldn't have found another coach to lift us out of the doldrums? That person might not have had the success of Calipari....but heck it took the NBA to decide that they would make players have one year of college under their belts, before he had any type of major success at all.
Pastner has gotten more 5* recruits in his first three years at Memphis, then Calipari did his entire time there.

Skatastrophy

I like Memphis and I think this thread is stupid.  Some of you need more work to do.

I'm from the Memphis fan site www.memphistigers.org.
This website was mentioned about the time of Aki's hiring. http://csnbbs.com/showthread.php?tid=572060
I had been out of touch with them somewhat for a couple of weeks(not able to post near as much as normal)....as I am a computer technician...with my nose on the grindstone.
I'm not a 'hater', I'm not here to try and cause trouble. I have a great deal of respect for Marquette. Along with Louisville, Marquette is one of the schools I missed playing after yall left when the Big East expanded all those years ago. You guys were consistently good...and you're a lot easier to get up for playing....than say Tulane, East Carolina, Rice, or Marshall.

And I think MU fans are perfectly content with Chew as a replacement for Collins anyway.

BBQ mostly...but seriously, I think its the fact that Memphis is a major metropolitan city...and it is also a hotbed for basketball talent.
I think Aki only coaches here for 2 years before becoming a head coach somewhere. He seems to be a special guy. I've read articles in your newspapers...where MU players were shocked and disappointed by his moving on.

Congratulations on your renaissance, and I'm happy to hear it. But YOU dio realize that your school over the course of 25 years had one of the worst graduation rates for basketball players in the country?

Our athletic department hasn't always been guided by the swiftest tools in the shed. From Charles Cavagnaro to RC Johnson...prime examples of what I mean. RC was more interested in raising money....and letting Calipari run the athletic department )damn near all money raised in those years went towards basketball). Football was allowed to suffer...and we couldn't cash in on our best football seasons under Tommy West.
I am really optimistic with the hiring of new AD Tom Bowens, and the newfound devotion of our boosters to the football side of the Memphis athletic budget.
The coaches we have in place now are mostly young, aggressive folks who play by the rules, and place a value on an education. Since Pastner has become the coach, more and more basketball players are graduating than under Cal.

according to Wikipedia....in 2010 the city of Milwaukee had a population of 594,833. Memphis had a population of 662,897.
Now if you're counting adjacent counties...yeah you've you got us beat 2.1 million to 1.3 million.
Like Milwaukee, Memphis has a NBA arena. Its a rabid sports town in the heart of SEC country. Like Milwaukee...Memphis has more than its share of crime.
When it comes to sports history....you folks have it all over us. Y'all have the Packers, the Brewers, the Bucks, and of course your Golden Eagles.
Memphis hasn't won a major title in anything yet...so we have to envy guys like you from afar.

You can easily find Marquette connections to Josh's violations.  Like when Josh blatantly committed a violation in the recruitment of former MU player T Mbakwe.

And once called on it, Memphis was forced to quickly report it to the NCAA and get the spin machine working.  Tsk, tsk.

"As seen in the full listing, July 13th was in a period of permissible attendance dates. Pastner showed up last night in full Memphis gear. He did not sneak in a back door. He was not hiding. With the level of scrutiny that the University of Memphis has faced over the past two years, it makes no sense for Pastner to blatantly violate a rule. Just like I have, Pastner certainly did his homework and found his attendance was within the rules of the NCAA."

Dig a little deeper, bud.

Yep, the memphis roar people thought it was within the rules.  But they were dead wrong.  Pastner pretended like he just didn't understand the rules.  He did.  Get real.

QuoteMemphis has self-reported a secondary NCAA violation over coach Josh Pastner's attendance at a summer league game last week where Minnesota forward Trevor Mbakwe was playing.
