Women's game today vs. Virginia
« on: November 17, 2006, 09:53:03 AM »
Women play at Virginia today.  While Virginia is not ranked per se, they are getting votes in both polls apparantly.. would be a good game to win for us!

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Fresh off its first win of the season, the Marquette women's basketball team will travel to Virginia to face the Cavaliers Friday, Nov. 17. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT, at the new John Paul Jones Arena.

"Virginia is a very talented team and we look forward to playing them," said head coach Terri Mitchell, who is eight wins shy of her 200th win. "They are a great ACC team that has won both of its games so far. It will be our first road challenge and I think it will be a great test of our character to play our first road game against them."

Virginia (2-0, 0-0), receiving votes in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches Polls, enters Friday night's match up with the Golden Eagles winning its first two contests of the season topping Rhode Island, 69-56, and Old Dominion, 92-72.

ACC Player of the Week, sophomore Lyndra Littles leads the Cavaliers with 18.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. She has posted back-to-back double-doubles in both wins. Senior Siedah Williams follows with 15.5 ppg., and 7.5 rpg. Virginia has outscored its opponents by 16.5 points and owns a +6.5 rebounding margin over its last two foes.

The Golden Eagles will be looking to avenge a 64-56 loss from last season Friday, as it will be the second all-time meeting between the two foes.

Cavalier senior Brenna McGuire is former Marquette legendary coach Al McGuire's granddaughter. The Al McGuire Center, Marquette's home court is named after Coach McGuire. Last time against Marquette, McGuire scored seven points and grabbed three rebounds.

Sophomore point guard Krystal Ellis didn't miss a beat since last season as she poured in 24 points in the Golden Eagles' win over 23rd-ranked Washington on Tuesday. Senior Danielle Kamm made her season debut in fine fashion scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
Once a warrior always a warrior.. even if the feathers must now come with a beak.
