Steve Novak update
« on: June 21, 2007, 10:47:30 AM »
http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_22404.shtml

In the mean time, 2006 draft pick Steve Novak will most certainly be in Vegas. Novak has been working out steadily back home at Marquette to get ready for another competitive summer with the Rockets summer league team. He then expects to return to Houston for more intense training with the Rockets' staff. The hiring of Rick Adelman greatly increases the chances that Novak becomes a rotation player in 2007-08.

"Steve is someone we're very high on because of his shooting, his quickness, and his ability to shoot and move for someone his size," said Morey. "He's very, very unique. Actually there aren't a lot of comparables, but there also aren't a lot of comparables for the other aspects of the game he needs to work on. He needs to get bigger - he's working on that - and he needs to get stronger - he's working on that. He needs to work on his defense, his rebounding - he's someone who needs to work on a lot, but he always works hard. We have him as someone who we hope contributes to the team next season and we think he can. Both Jeff and Rick value shooting, though Rick may emphasize it a little more over some defensive integrity. That's not a value judgment, it's just the way it is. In the best possible world he'll be on the floor and contributing, but at the end of the day if we're a winning team and he's not on the floor, that's something we can live with."

there is no way the situation next year can be any worse than what he went through under van gundy.

also... anyone have any info on Travis.  he is a free agent and he said before the end of last year that he more than likely won't be back with Orlando.  can you blame him?  he is definitely a solid number 2 point guard and possible starter with the right team.  he posted better numbers during his 4 or 5 games where he got minutes last year then ridnour posts with Seattle.

I think that there will be a few teams interested in Travis' services.  Phoenix was interested in acquiring him last year and there are a few teams that could use a good back up point.

Down here in Atlanta they're always looking for a good Starting point guard.  This guy doesn't necessarily need to be a big time scorer as they have guys to do that so I think if Atlanta doesn't draft anyone they might be interested.

I think Travis would do well on a well structured NBA team (oxymoron?). Someone that needs a PG probably wouldn't pick him up, i.e. Detroit when they lose Billups. He'd do well with the Suns because they know what he is (steady, heady PG who dishes first and shoots second) and what he's not (erratic and turnover prone).

I do know his website (www.travisdiener34.com) is still not working and has been down since well into this past NBA season.
