Gus was a great athlete (football, basketball, baseball) and was a pretty popular guy who always had a good story to tell. I was two years behind him but we both played baseball - he was a big prankster and was a lot of fun to be around. He went to Howard on an athletic scholarship.

That's impeccable timing by you because i was going to post the same video.

My favorite Gus call ever is the one with Morrison hitting that jumper to beat OK St. at about the 2 minute mark of this youtube clip. The absolute joy that Gus and Raftery obviously had to be able to be calling a great basketball game like that was came oozing through the TV.

I understand that not everyone is going to like his style of announcing, but i'm sure glad to be in the camp that does like Gus because he's the only announcer that makes me look more forward to a sporting event simply because he's calling it.

Not at all.  That shot faded right the whole way.  It was shot straight at the hoop and he somehow missed badly enough to hit the glass perfectly.

 I know it's painful to watch because of the way we ended our season with the real UW last year, but his call of Young Zeke hitting that jumper in OT to win the Pac-10 championship was just awesome.
