Burr, Higgins, and Walton all are stepping aside for remainder of the BET.

TallTitan34

Checking out other Big East message boards, this seems to be one thing everyone in the conference can agree on.

Huggins & Burr = Bad

Fullodds

They need to retire.  Old and slow is a bad combo for NCAA refs.

hopefully out of the NCAA also

I heard an interview with the head of NCAA officiating who seemed to imply they will likely be in the NCAAs.  Said it works just like teams - look at the whole body of work not whether one mistake was made.

I think all of us who have watched our share of Big East games over the years can send them plenty of evidence to support that their whole body of work warrants retirement.

BrewCity83

Well, their whole body of work sucks.  I don't want either one of them anywhere near MU.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

I swear Burr was in the tunnel before there were zeros on the clock. Did he have a hot date with a bookie?

Slim

I couldn't believe how many times I heard last night what great refs these guys are. I strongly disagree!

Yet in this case, they showed surprising quickness in avoiding the inevitable push....
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

If you were a coach would ever call out a Ref directly in the Media?  I cannot think it helps your program in the Long run get more calls. I think the high road is your only choice.

Officiating requires two characteristics:  1) The ability to see what is happening on the court, and 2) the ability to judge what you see in a fraction of a second.

Burr and Higgins are very good are judging what they actually see. Unfortunately, They are not so good at seeing what they need to judge.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

TallTitan34

Wow!  Even Melo's buzzer beater moved aside for this story.

Which brings up a third characteristic, the physical fitness to be able to get up and down the court.

It also helps if you can avoid anticipating calls which leads to calling fouls that didn't really happen.

I think this is definitely the right thing for them to do, however I think the BET might have been better off with them sticking around. With all of the conference tournaments going on the next 4 days, what's the quality of the officials that are available for hire still?

Curly, Moe, and Larry are available and would be an upgrade.

If not, me, F*ckin', and Chicos will to it for food and beverage.

It really only affects today since there are only 2 games tomorrow and 1 on Saturday.

Then I hope we see you toss Quick Rick immediately following the tip while sitting on the scorer's table munching on the pretzel they give you with a beer.

Whether tey are great or not is not the issue. You are always wise not to call someone out publically. The Rutgers coach showed a lot of class by taking the high road and i feel he will benefit from it in the future.

marquette09

I feel kind of bad for the 3rd official.  He's getting dragged down by Burr & Higgins even though the third official was on the other side of the court and in no position to make the call.

Do the Big East and Chief of Referees not see what is obvious to us or do they just choose to quietly let them disappear? A friend of mine is a retired ref and in the HOF, he defends his boys but once in while with just the right amount of beer even he will admit that these two have issues.

Dude, I thought you were Higgins.  I guess you were that guy on Magnum P.I., instead.
