Obviously he is not as talented, but I see DB have a little Jerel McNeal in him.

Yeah, that's who he reminds me of too. I think he may be a little quicker than Jerel as well. Not nearly as strong though.

Buycks has been a lot better at pushing the ball- he has added the 45 degree pass to the opposite side and is really looking to get the team easy transition buckets.  Still learning the half court as a 1.  People always say he's not a 1 like its a negative.  No one ever says, Buycks is doing a great job picking up being a 1.  I think he's adding a lot to his game and doing a really good job in learning to be the 1.  And for him I think his game starts with on-ball defense.  Really like his work ethic, attention to detail and basketball mind.

Agree...Buycks is definitely playing the best basketball of his MU career.  Really good all around play.

Buycks looked great.  He looks pretty good in almost every game.  He's just become a favorite to pick on because of the few silly errors he might make some games, but he certainly is playing well.

Buycks was great today. When WVU made their second half run to take the lead, it was refreshing to hear people around me calling for him to come back in. Glad to see that the rest of the Marquette faithful are realizing how well he is playing. He did a really good job out there. Hopefully between Caddy and Blue we are covered next year. Honestly, with DJO in the starting lineup, I have great faith in Blue. Looking at how far he's come this year, I think he'll acclimate pretty well to a starting role, even at a demanding position like PG, in 10 months.

1)Buycks played great today other than foul trouble which sometimes can't be helped. If he had a turnover I don't remember it but I certainly remember a couple nice shots, steals, and great assists. I don't recall seeing any posts from 'nomorebuycks' on here mercifully. This team needs DB in a big way.
2)JC just doesn't do much out there. Defensively he was okay but he's a very distant 2nd to DB right now.
3)I don't understand what people on this board see, but VANDER BLUE IS NOT A POINT GUARD. He is a decent ball handler and a 2-guard but he is not a PG. When he was the PG a couple games ago, he struggled greatly bringing the ball up against pressure and the offense sputtered. VB will be a great player when he fixes his shooting mechanics (which most definitely need to be fixed) but he isn't a PG.

Vander is a very good passer.  And with his height can see some things shorter guards cannot.  You may be right on the ball handling right now but remember he will improve immensely as he not even half-way through his Frosh season.  I think he could be a one in the future, though to your point (no pun intended) maybe just not right now.

If Vander spends the entire offseason focusing on becoming a lead guard, we'll see.   Now is not the time to try to make a kid who has never been a regular point guard into one.   He has lots of skills and continues to stuff the stat sheet, but he isn't a 1 and won't be this year.

Neither is Buycks, but he had one offseason to acclimate to acting as one and he's done a pretty decent job. No reason to think that with 3-1/2 more years, a player with as much raw talent as Blue can't develop into a very good PG.

agree that Dwight had a great day, and I too was calling for him when he sat w/ his 3rd foul.  I feel Jr. may be too tentative after his injury, afraid (maybe subconsciously) to go all out.

Dodds, on the other board, has done a good job of documenting Tony Smith's transformation into a point guard.  He arrived at MU with zero point guard capability, and over time, via athleticism and smarts, became an effective PG.  I think its plausible that VB can do the same.  In fact, if we are going to be good next year, I think VB will have to play the point.  Unless we get a JuCo x-fer, that is.
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

avid1010

On Buzz's TV show he stated that Vander can play some point, but it's not his position.  Said it would be good for him to see what a pg sees, and then move back to his natural position as it would help him become better at that position.  He didn't seem one bit convinced that Vander would ever spend any serious time at the point.  That being said, I wonder what Buzz has for a plan next year.  Even if JC is a good option (and I still think he will be), our second option becomes Vander, Wilson, or Singleton...

Have we forgot that D Wilson is coming in next year?  Just cause Buzz had a PG transfer and Junior is not yet what we thought he should be doent mean D Wilson is going to be a bust.  The last PG we had here that had the football skills that D Wilson does his name was Tony Miller.

jsglow

DB had his best game as an Eagle.  Team runs much better with him at the point.  Apart from the fouls, he cut down on his mistakes signifiantly.

Next year's PG may be playing JUCO right now.

Stretchdeltsig

Buyks played a good game.  Looks very athletic.  He can shoot and drive.  Looks very capable.  JC looks tentative.  Not a threat.  I like Buyks!

I don't think anyone has forgotten him, but relying on freshmen point guards is a dicey affair.  DJ was an exception to the rule.

As crazy as it may sound...Dave Singleton might be a legitimate option for point next year.  Wes Matthews said that of all the newcomers - Dave Singleton impressed him the most - during the Milwaukee Pro Am.  Singleton is NOT your typical walk on.  Good size, handle and athleticism.  Obviously Junior Cadougan was said to have played great in the Pro Am...but I trust Wesley Matthew's knowledge/talent evaluation to a decent extent as Wes has a very high basketball IQ..
