Maymon's Tennessee debut on tap

Former MU Golden Eagles forward and Madison Memorial star Jeronne Maymon says he will be eligible to play his first game for coach Bruce Pearl and the University of Tennessee on Saturday.

Why does Rosiak post this junk?  Nobody is interested in JMay anyway.

nothing from Tim Maymon yet?!

"will start off as the backup to Tobias Harris at power forward..."

glad to see that spending a year away from DI basketball paid off and he got what he daddy wanted.

In all seriousness, I have nothing against JMay and hope that he is happy in his new situation.

Well, Jimmy, Lazar, and Crowder play/played the 4 and the 5 and got plenty of open outside shots and opportunities to take the ball inside.  Hopefully he will get what he is looking for at Tennessee, but it's too bad he missed an opportunity here at MU which probably fit all of his interests even if he technically was the PF or C on the floor.

Thought this was kind of a classless article from Todd.

He does a great job writing about MU and their players...stick to that.

No need to bash a former player no matter how the situation ended.
The "average fan" is an idiot.

dsfire

I don't think it was intended as a bash.  Sounded more like his curiousity was piqued as to how Maymon will fit into the rotation at Tennessee.

Classless?  C'mon.  He poked him a couple of times.

Settle.

Another article from GoVolsxtra...

We really could have used his toughness this year.  Too bad it didn't work out.

TallTitan34

I think it is more facts than jabs...

QuoteNot sure how the 4 man is used in Pearl's system, but that's pretty much the same position he played -- and was reportedly unhappy playing -- at MU.   I'm guessing his main role will be to bang in the lane and rebound. Which is what he didn't want to do for the Golden Eagles.

Though this may be a jab haha...

QuoteMaymon told the Knoxville News he was waiting on a final grade to be posted to make his eligibility official. The class? Bowling.

GGGG

Yeah, he very well could have been starting this year if he stuck around.

Agreed. I don't think he was taking shots at Maymon. I think that Todd, like most MU fans and followers, found it odd that Maymon supposedly transferred from MU because he was unhappy playing the 4 and he went to another program where he's playing the 4.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I feel like there's more to the transfer story than just Jeronne (read: Tim) being unhappy about his position. That being said, I don't really care what that "more" is and I wish Jeronne the best and hope he is happy and is able to become his own man.

Bowling and musicology. Glorious. Thank goodness for higher education.

So did Todd write this article because MU fans want to know or he just wanted to stoke another raging debate on MUScoop??

Bowling and musicology must strain the brain.... ;)

FWIW, this isn't an "article," its an entry on Todd's JS-sponsored blog. Which means, its not going to be in the paper (if anyone still reads it). I think the fact that its a blog entry leaves a little more room for other tangential stuff, that, although somewhat related to MU...doesn't necessarily have to fit as strict of criteria as an article would (such as "about MU and their players")

Nukem2

Agreed.  Just a blog item about items of interest.

Point taken. Thanks VM.

"Class-less" was probably not correct word choice...but I'm not exactly a beat writer! :)

I love the work Todd does, follow him on twitter, and really enjoy his 1on1 questions with players, etc...this piece just rubbed me the wrong way.

That "Bowling" would be an accretited course at any university is mind boggling. I get that everthing doesn't have to be Physics or even English composition. But Bowling? Not exactly preparing our students to compete in the global economy.

I always liked Maymon and continue to wish him nothing but the best.  I hope his career at TN is really successful.

No, Bowling and Musicology make him a Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Tennessee. The only school in America where the average studen't ability to read and write was garnered by 100 hours of remedial Romper Room.

Jeronne, Tim and Bruce deserve each other. I just want to know if, in addition to his uniform, Tennessee issued Maymon a firearm to protect himself against the quality of human being who makes up the Tennessee football team.

Nothing wrong with calling a spade a spade, and that's all he's done.  He's just addressing the issues Maymon supposedly had playing at MU and showing how things really won't be different at UT.

I took my high school senior son to It's Indiana, It's Indiana recently.  While there, they said as long as they can get a teacher to teach the course and there's interest (I think at least 3 students if I remember correctly), they will offer the class.  An example they gave was a class in how to speak "elf".

Pretty easy to see why there's a bowling class for credit.  The beer frame alone would make it worthwhile.

ps...my son's final two choices are becoming a Hoosier or a Warrior.  I'm ok with either but I don't think I'll become an IU BB fan soon if he chooses I I, I I.
