I dont know if this was ever brought up, but I just thought this was so cool. Thought some people in the student section should see it because the student section needs some more life.

Man, those seats along the side make me jealous. I hate being stuck in the corner so far away from the action.

Hey Vikings, I like what you've done with the basement.

"Lazar Hayward. The L stands for leader, and the W stands for winner, Lazar Hayward is a winner."

That was incredible! We can't even get a we are marquette chant synchronized.

Those chants didn't help them in the tourny 2 years ago.

What does that have to do with anything?  I bet it helped them win that particular game.  No question some of the players on the opposite team were thinking "man are we going to have to listen to this s*#@ all night?"....

Again I still wonder why we cannot extend the student section one more section around the bench.  This year is a re-seating year.  What happens if they just take that section away and then what ever happens with the reseating happens?  Are some alums going to be so mad they don't renew?  I'd move back a few rows to make this happen in a heartbeat.

That's really amazing.  I love our fans, but that....wow.

Because the students don't fill the seats they have now?

That was awesome.  Oh well.  At least we have the Spanish O'Donnell's.

Student sections that ring the floor or are close to the action like at Duke) can really alter a game - they are n your face, literally.  At the BC, those seats fetch too good a price, so we won' ever do that.

Thelower bowl is usually full in the student section. I would think more would go if their was more opportunity to sit down there

The student section will come to life again against Wisconsin and the Big East schedule.

The fans in general always are a little bored for the cupcake games.

Hate to bash these chants... but they are high school.

Every high school in WI does these chants... although Utah St does them impressively, they aren't new, or original...

With that being said, MU students, lets go, be a student section

pure genius stuff by Bill Simmons, remember to read day 2

As much as I would love to see this, it will never happen, for a couple reasons.

1) Marquette isn't a big enough school to fill up the entire student section with really dedicated fans. There are some who will get super into the game, get to the stadium really early, but this is a small percentage of the student population. The majority of the students enjoy going to the games but aren't overly passionate about the team. The rest only go for weekend games, where it's guaranteed to be a party in the upper deck.

2) Being stuck in the corner way back from the court, with small isolated sections really hurts us when it comes to chants. I sat halfway up the lower bowl for the game yesterday, and I was struggling to hear what chants we were doing. There is too much space between sections, and its really jumbled up the way the seating is in the corner.

The Bradley Center just isn't a good venue if you want a raucous student section and huge home court advantage like you do at the smaller, older arenas like Cameron Indoor and Utah State's. My friends and I have discussed having one game a year at the Al for students only. Since the Al only holds about 4500 people, you would probably need to camp out or something to get tickets to that game, and it would be the really passionate fans who went. I know, all the alumni would be upset if this were to happen, but how much of a home court advantage would that be? There's probably some NCAA rule against this though, since they hate fun.

I really think we should set up official student section meetings and set up section captains to lead the chants.

That video was amazing

I wouldn't be against that idea either.  I feel like having that front row of people trying to run cheers causes a ripple effect rather than having the entire student section start up on a chant together.  The toughest part would be picking "captains" that the majority of the students in that section don't find to be a complete dbag.  I don't think that current group of kids down in the front section commands as much respect as previous crews.  This could also be because I'm growing older and more angry at the world.

Camping out...what an idea!

Hopefully it can be done, we tried it several years when we were there and could never get any traction with the students.

I think the arm bands that Utah State uses is also very clever, adds to the pageantry

The funniest thing in that 2nd video is the guy from the red team doing an irish jig at the end - hysterical.

Pretty sure it was called the "scoreboard tree chant" but I can't be positive. Technically WIAA banned that chant
