Apparently The Big Show started talking about Marquette Basketball yesterday and weren't exactly excited about our upcoming season.

Its not on podcast and I didnt listen live, but people on the Twitter were reporting what they said....and it didn't sound nice. Anyone actually catch it?

via @go_marquette

Shocked that @1250WSSP (Big Show guys) is looking at #mubb in a negative light. NOT!

@mjtimberlake @brewtownandy said team poster md team look like thugs. Said #mubb has no legacy (says that on poster). Said Buzz...(cont)

@mjtimberlake @brewtownandy only recruits JUCOs and guys of shady backgrounds. Callers chimed in saying #mubb is shady, they hate MU, etc

@mjtimberlake @brewtownandy shock, Sparky was the sanest,Gary was pulling the UW-is-holier-than-thou crap.It seriously was borderline racist

via @anonymouseagle

@go_marquette Decided to listen to Gary Ellerson's take on MU's basketball poster. That was quite an exercise in nonsense.

And lastly via @WSSP_Big_Show

Marquette basketball mean mugging poster thoughts? http://bit.ly/1250wssp

WSSP = World's Stupidest Sports Program....ugh.  Hard to listen to these guys on any topic.

HoopsMalone

With the beatings that are about to happen to UW on behalf of MU, if you are an ideologue UW fan you have to start convincing yourself that MU is somehow shady or some how not one us because they are thugs.  I don't care that that kid Taylor put up some nice games against Indiana and Penn State, I am not worried about them.  Deep down, they know what is coming too.

If MU does not have a legacy based on having Al's years and now having one of the best coaches in the NBA and best players in the NBA right now, then I don't know who besides UCLA, Duke, etc. has a legacy.

GOMU1104

That station has been a joke ever since they hit the airwaves. They are an embarassment.

I hope Broeker/Buzz get a hold of this and have some words for Ellerson's dumb ass.

Skatastrophy

I've never heard of the station or the show.  Is it out of central/northern Wisconsin or something?

I didn't realize that talking heads on AM got any listeners anymore.  /shrug

I don't know what's worse, sports talk radio or political talk radio.  Basically, they're the same, a bunch of bitter, middle-aged, uninformed, borderline retarded and racist angry white men spouting nonsense.  Que the "RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE" photo...

Answer: Political talk radio....it will drive you insane eventually.

Actually, Ive heard that sports talk radio has actually grown in the past 10-15 years and with all the smartphone apps and online streaming, you dont need to even be in the area or have an AM radio.

+1

And MU's legacy is only getting better.  Last year (2 yrs ago?), the Athletic Department had some figures about MU's all-time achievements relative to other programs....I can't find it but remember it being impressive.

Shamefully judging a book by its cover.

Lab_Warrior nice stereotype but you should keep your nose in your beakers and speak about that which you do know.

Major markets have better choices of who to listen to .

Isn't that the truth!  I moved out of Milwaukee 4 years ago, and while I always had a hunch that the local sports talk was less than mediocre on 1250(and in the 414 in general), it became clear that this is indeed the case after living in a different city (Cincinnati) and listening to their local guys for four years.  Further, not only is the quality better overall, they cover college hoops extensively including Cincy, Xavier, Kentucky, Miami(OH), and even Louisville......and they show little to no bias in all cases.  1250 is garbage and I suggest that all of the 414/262 people simply make their statements by not listening when Gary Ellerson/Sparky are on.  Hurt them through their ratings

He did use the qualifier that they were basically the same thing...I would agree with lab that vast vast majority of sports radio is rabble rabble rabble.  Good sports radio stations are most definitely the exception, not the rule

WellsstreetWanderer

Basically ,they are not all angry white men etc.... Maybe in Milwaukee but I think he was actually making an angry statement about those with which he does not agree, hence the refernce to  "stupid" et al. Which makes me think I'm back in grammar school with Lab _ Warrior only able to call people names. I'm sick of baseless attacks on persons with whom we do not agree regardless of their persuasion. It bespeaks a closed mind.

It's not just sports talk. Milwaukee has the absolute worst radio I've heard in my life. The fact that people actually listen to Bob and Brian is jaw-dropping. This is a show that is so desperate for "personality" that they have to have a guy call in from Washington DC! Are you kidding me? You're telling me there's nobody in (or from) Wisconsin with personality enough to discuss sports? It's an embarrassment.

And who cares what these losers from WSSP say. They're a bunch of guys making $15,000 a year.

Got nothing to do with what's available in Wisconsin, the sports segment has always been about a nationally known sports reporter talking about sports on a national scale not local sports.  They started with Dan Patrick back in his early days at ESPN, when he left they replaced him with Mark Patrick and then Czaben.

Dan Patrick is quite a bit different from Czaben. I'm from Chicago and I've never heard of the guy until I heard him in Milwaukee. And Mark Patrick? Are you kidding me? He's "nationally known?" I don't think so. It's embarrassing and extremely small time that they need to pipe a guy in from DC to talk sports.

Skatastrophy

Steve Czaban is awesome.  Your opinions, PRN, are wrong.

The only reason they got Dan Patrick for that gig is because Patrick roomed with Dave Luczak, of "Dave and Carole" WKLH fame, at the University of Dayton, but they didn't think he was right for the KLH audience, and they sent him over to LZR, which are owned by the same company.

You sound like an angry white man.

BTW, Ellerson better watch making too many "thug" labels considering the crowd he ran around Milwaukee with after his NFL playing days ended.  I don't think he'd be real comfortable about some of those stories coming to light.

Here's the link where you can see the poster and you can listen to the whole segment on MU by clicking on Hour 3 of the audio podcasts. They talk about MU for around 20 minutes.

Czaban isn't just some DC guy, when he started on Bob and Brian, he was hosting his own show for One-on-One Sports, the largest sports radio network in the country at that time.  He's the only person in history to be a host on all three of the national sports radio networks, and he's been syndicated around the country in some capacity for more than a decade.  You're not having heard of him says more about you not knowing the radio business than anything else.

Mark Patrick has been a part of the most successful syndicated morning show in radio for more than 20 years, he's had his own show on Fox Sports Radio and the MLB Radio Network, as well as working for ESPN Radio.  He's been a name in the business since the mid 1980s.
