Ellenson Guerrero

Just saw a tweet from NBE about players at Northwestern Military Academy's prep players. It mentions us and a few other Big East schools being in on a 6'9 forward from Germany. He seems like a bit of a project but u can't teach heigt. His coach even goes so far to say that we've been coming hardest on Martin and he thinks well offer soon.

Don't have the exact link but I think the site is NBEbasketball.com

It's Bruenig...and here's another story.

http://www.livinglakecountry.com/blogs/staffblogs/104428499.html

"Perhaps one of the most interesting components of the new team is Leverkusen, Germany native Martin Breunig, a 6-foot-9 wing player who averaged 14.5 and 9.3 rebounds for his German team last year while shooting 59 percent from the field. He competed in the U18 national team in the FIBA European Championships in Lithuania and has been considered by many high-Division 1 programs, including Marquette.

"Basketball wise, he's far beyond fundamentally sound," Richert said. "In international and Europe basketball, it's all fundamentals from day one. The one-on-one skills and all that stuff is never really taught over there. It's all about team and fundamentals. So he's far advanced fundamentally, more than any player I've seen out there."

Here's a youtube video of him "working out"  Seems to have good range.

i'm actually a little impressed. seems really smooth for a big man.

GGGG

The article I linked to says that his weaknesses, as with many European players, are on the defensive end on the floor.

"Marquette is pretty involved with him," Clanton said. "They haven't finalized anything, in terms of an offer or a verbal or anything, but I would expect that fairly soon."

What does he mean by a verbal? A commitment?

ATWizJr

what did you think of his jumping ability from the video?

I read it to mean a verbal scholarship OFFER.  Is this kid a senior this year meaning he'd be ready to play next year for MU?

I thought it had a distinctive Steve Novak quality to it.  No way he's dunking in traffic during a game.

Lighthouse 84

Not enough O's in smoooth to describe him in that Youtube video. I wonder how he does when the floor's filled with two teams and at full speed?

2. The Gym.                      8. Park Avenue.

4. O'Donohues.                 10. Lighthouse.
5. O'Pagets.
6. Hagerty's.

MU_Iceman

A 6'9" project who can stretch the floor and draw defenders out to the perimeter?  Sign me up for that flyer...

Sharpie

There are a few more videos of him on youtube. Just type his name in. I like the potential of this kid. If he's "tough" enough, I'd say bring him on board.

Blackhat

Wouldn't kick him out of the AL but we need a  Marcus Jackson type first and foremost.

Really disappointed Buzz hasn't been able to land a rock pf type in 3 years here so far.   Just one R Jax/ Faisal Abraham type, that's not asking for too much.

kmwtrucks

2 things, Buzz just brought in a 265 air carft carrier this year. DG. Give him and Otule a chance they have 3 and 4 years of Eligibilty left.  2nd if you watch the Video of him playing a scrimmage against a low level college team (found on the Saint John basketball website) look around the 1:05 mark and he throws down a pretty good Alley oop. He looks more athletic in the live game Videos.

GGGG

Let's not discount what having a good St. John's prep school team right in our backyard might do to our recruiting.  From the articles, they also brought in some 6' 10" guy from Nigeria.

GOO

Broenig looks good to me.  Remember guys, this is college, not many aircraft carrier types.  I like a big that can step out and shoot it on offense.  Big issue is if he can defend bigs at the BE level in a couple of years.  Broenig shows some skill.  I hope we get him, assuming this is the guy Buzz wants.

MUBurrow

One other nice thing about these guys, foreign Euros actually tend to be extremely low risk.  This leverages against concerns about his toughness or defense.  If the Buzz treatment proves too much for him, and he doesn't like having to toughen up and buckle down, Euros tend just to leave.  I think they as a group are more likely to look for another opportunity (because they are available in foreign professional leagues, etc) than stick around an American university on scholarship for four years. So in that way, I like this as a flyer. Either he adopts well to Buzz's requirements and likely becomes at least extremely serviceable or he doesn't, but probably then won't occupy scholarship resources indefinitely anyway.

Markusquette

I know it's hard to base much off of a couple youtube clips, but he looks very mobile, can handle, and has a nice touch.  I think he could be a good player in time.  Then again I thought the same of Mbao.

StillWarriors

The difference is this kid appears to already have some solid skills. Mbao was tall and had some athleticism, but really no hoops skills

nycwarrior

sign this kid and "God's Gift" and this class starts to look pretty strong for a follow-up on back-to-back top 25s.

FF03

This is no brainer...take a flyer on him and build a relationship with an up and coming school for potential recruits.  Mark down this kid as our next guy signed on the dotted line.

Rockmic87

Who else is recruiting him? Seems like it's only us and UWGB?

Really, did you even read the f'n article:

"Right now, Breunig has interest from Cincinnati, Marquette, Iowa State, Hawaii and USC, but one school in particular is standing out."

This kid is more athletic than you think.  His team is in red in this game and he's #10.  In one sequence he gets the ball above the free throw line extended on the fast break, goes around his man with the dribble and finishes with a one hand dunk.  He also takes the ball off the defensive board, takes a couple dribbles and hits his man for a fast break layup.
