I was looking at rivals.com yesterday and we ranked as the 13th best class with Vander, Smith and Jones.

If you go to the Marquette team site is says we have a verbal from Newbill and Crowder.

My question is, how often does a verbal committment back out or go somwhere else because the other team kept recruiting? How often does a school go back on an offer?

**By no means am I saying MU should drop one of these guys or trying make us look bad so don't assume that.

And is Buzz still working on recruiting someone better? There are some fairly high rated PF on the board, although none of them list MU.

Happens all the time.  See Vander Blue, he originally committed to Wisconsin and then backed out.

Schools that go back on offers have to be careful.  If they "blow a kid out" it could hurt them with future recruits and every coach competing against them will remind every recruit how someone was "blown out."

More than likely, coaches/schools do what we did with Roseboro.  Sit him down and tell him that he's probably going to ride the bench with little playing time for his career and while he is free to stay, it would be "understandable" if he considered going somewhere else.

When is the next signing period?  As far as I know, from the WIKI, we have signed Smith only and the rest are verbals.

muarmy81

We signed smith, jones, and blue in the fall period.  I think the spring period is the 2nd week in april.

Are you speculating, or do you have a source on this?  If the latter, please link.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Vander never commited signing a LOI as a verbal is just stating yes I intend to go there. Once you sign the LOI then you have committed.

ATWizJr

Where on the WIKI can I find who has verballed us, who has signed a LOI, and when the next signing period is?

The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

Help me out here....when I click on this link I find a list of some verbals under 2010 copmmits and cannot tell who has signed and who has not.  Also, no mention of Crowder or Newbill on this link that I can find. What am I missing here?

BrewCity83

Looks like it just needs some updating...

Or see Aaron Bowen, for that matter (unfortunately).

What do you think happened here?  I'm too lazy too look up a link but this is what I remember from last fall and we probably had 10 threads about it.

marquetteff03

So is there a chance one of the verbals is out and we land a big? I know it is not nice to think about but we have a load of wings coming in.

I remember that the general consensus was that Roseboro and MU mutually agreed to part ways, but I don't recall that the exact circumstances or details were ever confirmed (except for a secondhand soundbite from one of his HS coaches).

Scholarships are actually one-year renewables, so if MU wanted to, it could just tell one of the players that they aren't offering them a scholarship for next year.  They won't have to talk anyone into anything.

I don't think that is the rep we want to have with recruits.  Hey kid, here's a scholly to play BB at MU but we often don't renew them,so you might have to find another school to transfer to before your 4 years are up.  Nah.

There is talk on another board about a potential "surprise signing" for MU.  Apparently the rumor is that it's a 6'10" 250lb post player.  Maybe Maurice Walker doesn't like the rumors that Dixon is leaving Pitt or a "big" recruit from one of the other schools who's coach has quit or been fired is planning on making a switch.

There was a lot of speculation on the other board about whether that meant someone was transferring, a "verbal" being told thanks but no thanks, etc...but then that board turned into a bitch-fest between a few people and strayed from the topic.

So I'll say this here, it is BY NO MEANS FACT, but, there was a buzz (no pun intended) around the Chicago Public League that Reggie Smith may not qualify academically.  I hope that isn't the case because I think he has amazing potential, but that said, if he doesn't qualify and instead goes the JUCO route (or a school with lower academic standards, I suppose), that would open up another spot.

Again, I don't know this to be factual, but that was a rumor around the CPL.  It'll be interesting to see how it plays out...

mugrad99

But Reggie Smith is not in the CPL, is he?

I'm glad that doesn't happen here!

No, Thornton is in the SICA.  But that doesn't mean that those associated with the CPL don't know what is happening.

To go off what Iceman said, I too heard through someone with bball connections that Marquette is to land a huge recruit sometime in April.  I wasn't given any further details, so that could mean a replacement for this class i.e. reggie smith or it could be a 2011 recruit, I really have no idea.  All I was told is that it is basically the biggest get for MU in a long time and it most likely is a big.

Again, this could all be hearsay, but I am looking forward to hearing big news in April!

Well if there is any truth to there potentially being one of the biggest gets for MU in a long time, a quick glance at the top unsigned bigs according to ESPN shows a few McD AA type of talents...how sick would it be if Buzz landed one of them:

Again, any truth to this being the "biggest signing" would probably point to a kid like Leslie...which I don't think any of us would be opposed to!  That said though, I really like Reggie Smith and would hate to see him as a non-qualifier...it'll be interesting to see how this plays out...

When does spring signing begin, again?
