Am I the only one who thinks Monroe of GU is on this team because of reputation?

How can Hayward not be first team? It's a joke!

No Wesley Johnson, either, so there you go.

Enough to keep him off of an all-conference team, you'd think.  he missed roughly 1/4 of the conference season.

goodgreatgrand

Not surprised at all that Harangody was a first teamer. So what if he missed 5 games? He averaged 23 and 10 and would be the All-time leading scorer of the CONFERENCE had he not gotten injured.

The Pickle

With 16 teams in the conference and only room for 6 players (curious why 6 on 1st team and 5 on 2nd team) on the first team, some guys are going to get left off.  I don't disagree with any of the first team selections except maybe Greg Monroe but he does have the stats (16 PPG, 9 RPG) to justify it.  I would look at this not so much that Lazar isn't a first team Big East player but rather the league has too much talent and not enough first team spots...

But he was injured....and missed nearly 1/3 of the conference season. That's a ton of time, eons in a conference schedule.   And his team played better without him.

It's crazy to honor somebody with a woulda/shoulda/coulda spot on a team when the league is so deep with other worthy student athletes who performed well throughout the gauntlet that is the Big East.  Those guys earned it -- and this was given to him.

The award represents individual accomplishments, not team accomplishments. The fact that ND played better without him means nothing. Also, Haragody, despite missing 5 games ("eons," you say) still easily outscored Hayward 607 - 541. Rebounds werent close either.

Actually, this is a BE award.  So in conference games, Gody was 10th in points and 16th in rebounds.  Why is that 1st team worthy?  I can see 2nd team as recognition, but he missed 5.5 games due to injury or 31% of the conference games.  Abromaitis was more deserving from his own team than he was.

So I guess you'll get pissed when Butler doesnt win the most improved award. THAT's the award Abromaitis should win. If he doesnt get it, it should go to Kris Joseph.

i dont want a damn honorable mention for JB, i want him on the damn second team and hayward on the first

Huh?  My point is that Gody didn't earn 1st Team BE.  I am a big fan of Abro, btw, and he had more impact on ND's BE season than Gody.

Abro didn't even play last year which I believe doesn't make him eligible for most improved--not sure on that.   So yes it is between Jimmy and Joseph.  And, since Jimmy has two walk-off game winners, I am guessing he gets the nod.

You compare:

Most improved Player is going to come down to Ashton Gibbs and Jimmy, and sadly Gibbs is going to win it. Probably pretty easily.

That does make sense since he is 2nd Team and Pitt is a surprise led by him.  I added Gibbs to the Statsheet comparison page.  Unfortunately, you cannot just grab BE games in this section.

Last year Dominic James didn't even get an honorable mention.  I assume his missing 5 games had something to do with it.

For sure.  Just too many great players in the league.

Greg Monroe is overrated though.  He's not the on-court leader that any of the other first-teamers are, and Hayward definitely edges him in that category.

I'm with you, but not getting accolades doesn't make either of them any less of a player.  Look at Wes Matthews.  I don't remember him winning anything individually but he's in the league...

Greg Monroe is a joke of a selection.  As dominant as he could be, the dude completely disappeared on more than a few occasions this year.

100% agree!

Monroe and Harangody both made 1st team based on reputation.
