Breakfast in Milwaukee
« on: February 23, 2010, 10:31:19 AM »
I tried to use the search function a bit, because I swear there was a thread about breakfast in Milwaukee.

What are the current recommendations for breakfast in Milwaukee?

The Broken Yolk inside of 2040 Lofts (on Wisconsin near 20th) is the best breakfast I have ever had.  The french toast really is a work of art.

The perfect MU food day is where food places were discussed.

Edit:  Looks like only 2040 Lofts and Michaels were discussed for B'fast.  Omitting Miss Katie's Diner is a mistake.

OK, breakfast in Milwaukee. First, what time of the day are you going? 9am or 10am or 11am? Also, Saturday or Sunday?

My first choice (and personal favorite) is Comet Café on Farwell. I usually go at least 2 times a month for breakfast there. If you can get in before about 9:45 on Saturday you can get seated quickly. Sundays are a crapshoot. They open at 9am too.

The same people also own two places in Bayview I really dig in Palomino and Honey Pie. Same timing rules for Honey Pie as for Comet Café. Palomino is always a bit quieter and has free wifi. It is also bigger so you can usually get seated quickly.

Another place which I have yet to try but a trusted friend of mine recommends is Hoch-A-Do on North Ave right next Cans and up by all the bars.
But I like to throw handfuls...

Agree on Comet and heard good things about Hoch-A-Do.

Also a few friends have been raving to me about Saz's Sunday Brunch.

Big fan of the Comet Cafe and Original Pancake House (not an IHOP) at 2621 Downer.

Really? It's an unoriginal chain that is WAY overpriced.

If you want a more upscale breakfast check out Trocadero on North Water

Trocadero closed for remodeling on the 15th, won't be open for a month or more.

Twisted Fork, on the East Side I think...  Is that still around?  I remember it was very good.

Cafe Central in bayview has great brunch.
Comet is awesome for b-fast, lunch and dinner.

And you can never go wrong with George webbs (good hangover food).

Best breakfast in my opinion is Ma Fischer's on the East Side.  Open 24 hours and you won't find a better omelette or skillet anywhere.

The breakfast place in 2040 lofts is amazing. Some people have claimed to have experienced food poisoning, but I have no idea whether their claims are true, and I haven't ever had a problem. When they opened I thought, finally a freaking place to get breakfast on campus.

I think Michael's preempts the need to ever go to Ms Katie's.  The food is every bit as good and cheaper.

The Broken Yoke opened right as I was leaving but it is delicious!

I also enjoy the legit corned beef hash from Miss Katies.

The Twisted Fork is still around, though I've never had breakfast there.

I second Pandel's for a sunday brunch.  Also recommend Ted's diner on North AVe in Tosa.  Good grease and milk shakes.

Its pretty hard to beat Hollander's brunch and breakfast at Comet Cafe. Try the bacon pancakes at Comet, they're unbelievable....you'll thank me later!!

Jack Pandl's, however, in Whitefish Bay is still open, and serves a Sunday brunch.  Never had it, but nice location.

Hubbard Park Lodge in Shorewood has a great family style brunch, Sunday's only:  http://www.hubbardlodge.com/FridayFishFrySundayBrunch.html

Saz's Sunday brunch, as someone mentioned, is tremendous.  Book a table early.
