What do you usually shoot when you golf?
« on: February 08, 2010, 05:02:04 PM »
Kip's bayeagle's plight and the responses made me wonder, how many golfers do we have and what do you usually shoot/what is your handicap?   I am a high 70's golfer.   For 18 holes, you chuckleheads.      The best I have ever shot on a 'championship' course is a 68, though I have a 65 at the local 6100 yard goat track.   One ace.  That I didn't actually see go in the hole.

I'm usually around 80.   My low round has been an even-par 70 at Hilldale in Hoffman Estates, IL....but my best round was probably an 85 from the tips at Butler National.

If I can break 90, it's a good day. There was a time not too long ago when I did so with regularity. Personal best is an 82. I'm what you'd call a "sh!tty golfer."

Mid 90's now but a couple years ago I was consistantly in the low to mid 80's.  Best round was a 73 in 2007 at The Orchards in Door County.

I rarely keep score.

I play winter rules year round.

My favorite club is the foot wedge...has gotten me out of alot of tough lies.

last year I started in the mid 80s but I lost my drive and my score started to creep up into the mid-upper 90s. if I could hit my driver I'd be so much better.

75-85.  Best round based on course is 73(IMHO) at the Hermitage in Nashville.

My handicap has increased as follows
+1 for each year of marriage
+2 for each year as a dad.

if you didn't count his uses of the foot-wedge, lost balls, water shots and mulligans Marquette09 still would barely break 100

I shot 90 my first and only time on a course... on the front 9... with a 10 stroke limit per hole.. and missed swings didn't count.. and the ability to pick up the ball and throw it when I got tired of swinging.. LOL

Before I was married, 80's and low 90's.  Best round ever was the day before I got married.

Since I got married, I'm happy to break 100.  I just don't get to play that often anymore and courses are so expensive in So. Cal, I'm not going to drop $130 every time out.  I miss the days of playing in Milwaukee for next to nothing.

No Aces.  Did have one rest about 4 inches from the cup.

I hang around between 85 - 90.  The longer the course, usually the better.  My short game is hideously inconsistent though, and I usually end up burning 5 strokes a round trying things I'm not good enough to try (hence my reference to learning to spin, etc on club suggestions).

That is part of the fun of golf.   However, coming from you.....?!?!
I am jonesing bad to get out and play.   What helped my golf last year is that my then-2-now-3-year-old decided he wanted to golf with daddy.   I took him out a bunch of times for 9 holes in a cart. (BTW, I hate carts.   They ruin and slow the game.   Unless you have one of those courses where the next tee is 1/2 mile away.    And outings)     Momma couldn't even complain because I was spending quality time with the boy.   Plus, having him along made be quit obsessing, and just set up and hit.

I hover around 90, usually a bogey per hole. I have calmed my drive down a bit now and when hitting my driver I have shot an 80 at a mid-level course. I really don't consider it a hole in one that I got since it was a pitch and putt in Ireland about 90 yard hole and it was pouring rain, and I didn't see it go in.

You and me both.  I have always thought I could probably shoot par or under par on a par 90 course....18 par 5's....a lot of $'s for maintenance and upkeep probably....that would be the ideal course setup for my game.

Mid-to-upper 90's, and low 100's for the most part. Finally getting a driver I can hit brought me down a few strokes.

This is a very depressing conversation to be having during a snowstorm.

Well I have to take a 3 Iron off the tee since I'm about as inconsistent as one can be with a driver.

I usually shoot about 80-90, my short game saves me.  Very rare for me to have more than 30 putts in a round.

EDIT: punctuation and amount...because I wasn't fooling anyone

Very rare for me to have more than 22 putts in a round.

EDIT: punctuation

If we are talking about 18 holes you are the best putter in the world.  I don't know of any tour pros that average 22 putts per round. Current leader on tour is Corey Pavin at 27.17  If I have less than 30 putts for 18 I am usually taking home the cash.

If we're just messing around, 2-3 ft is a gimme.

If we're competing, putt them all.

I'm typically 80-85, rarely going over 87.  Low round was 76, but I can count on two fingers the number of times I have been under 80.  Left an Ace on the lip once.  Waited for Carl Spackler to blow up the course so it would fall, but all I could do was jump up and down hoping it would fall......I did get the bird though!

I don't play golf......for money....with people....

I usually putt out anything over a foot.   I usually concede any putt for an 8.   I don't care if somebody is lousy, but please, for the love of all that is holy, don't look at a 10 ft putt for a 9 from 3 sides.    If you stink, at least stink fast.   Nobody actually cares if you shot 107-112, just whether or not you played quickly and were a fun partner.

Wondering how long it would take...

Chipping onto the green, put it close and knock it in.  One putt.

And the hardest course I play each year, is probably Brown Deer.  Take it for what it's worth.

EDIT:  It's certainly more than 22 (since I don't count putting from the fringe as a putt).

Nor should you.  It isn't a putt unless it occurs on the green.
That being said if you are making 14 one putts in a round it is still amazing.

I am almost automatic from 10-15 feet and I am rarely outside of 10 feet when lining up putt number 2.  Then again, the greens I am playing are not all that difficult.

Ditto.  Another hacker.

My kids are getting older and showing some interest, so hopefully I can play a bit more and have more "good days."  It's hard to improve when you only play 5-8 rounds per year.

mid-80s, about 34 putts/round.  :P

First hole-in-one last year in Door County (Orchards #6).  Never saw it go in.  Had the misfortune of accomplishing this task on a golf outing with ELEVEN other golfers!  Never saw so many Lite beer drinkers switch to top shelf liquor when I had to purchase my obligatory round of drinks!  :D

About 88-92 now that I count everything and put everything out.  Got my first and only hole in one on a short par 4 at 260 yards or so, the beautiful albatross.  Shot 86 at Erin Hills from the third tee, was very happy with that.  I cannot putt, that's a problem.

Break 90 on a good day, break 100 on bad day - consistently between 92 - 97...    have played 6 years (started in mid-30's), very inconsistent, can easily go par-par-triple-quad-par-par...   usually 1 bad shot per hole that screws with the score for that hole...

will watch for Lance on the tour with his 22 putts per round average...

Usually 90 - 100.  Have had a few rounds in the 80's.

I am living proof that hole in one is mostly luck.  #14 on Bristlecone Pines.  The members were so pi**ed off they re-built the hole.

I make the "nananananana" sound when I do it.  Looks more impressive.

I shot 1 over on the back nine once after starting 4 under after 5 holes...too bad I shot 17 over on the front nine.  I guess I really didn't want to ruin my bogey average.

I am almost automatic from 10-15 feet and I am rarely outside of 10 feet when lining up putt number 2.  Then again, the greens I am playing are not all that difficult.

Again, Lance, you should be on the tour as PGA tour professionals only average 31% putts made from 10 - 14 feet.

Percentage of Putts Made by Tour Professionals

DISTANCE   PERCENT MADE
2-foot putts   99%
3-foot putts   91%
4-foot putts   81%
5-foot putts   70%
6-foot putts   62%
7-foot putts   54%
8-foot putts   47%
9-foot putts   43%
10-14 foot putts   31%
15-19 foot putts   19%
20-24 foot putts   14%
25-foot & greater   6%

if you didn't count his uses of the foot-wedge, lost balls, water shots and mulligans Marquette09 still would barely break 100

I find this ironic.  Remember the one time you five putted.................from 15 ft away.  The funny part was that you left all five of the putts short of the hole and you still took a bogey because you "had to adjust to the speed of the greens."

I'm usually high 70s, low 80s. Shot 69 once at a course called Hunters Glen in NE Wisconsin....very easy course though. My best round was probably a 78 at Erin Hills from the blacks, which is over 7800 yards. I caddied out there so I had a bit of an advantage.

What is everyone's favorite course in the area? I favorite EH19, but really like Morningstar as well.

Worthy of a new thread, I think.
