FIU's Isaiah Thomas contacted by the Clippers; possible fallout?

Fox's Goodman reported:

"According to a source close to the situation, the Clippers have reached out to Thomas -- who coached the Indiana Pacers and also the New York Knicks -- to take over coaching, general manager and president duties.

He would replace Mike Dunleavy, who was relieved of his coaching duties earlier this week but remains the general manager.

Thomas, 49, was hired this past April as the head coach at Florida International down in Miami.

He took over a downtrodden program that has endured nine consecutive losing seasons. FIU is 7-18 this season, but Thomas and his staff will add a talented recruiting class next fall that includes a Top 50 player."

If he takes the job, his prized recruits will probably scatter like seeds in the wind.

Any hope that one may land in Milwaukee? (That'd probably mean an oversigning for 2010 unless one commits and goes the prep school route, right?)

i didnt think it could get worse for the  clip show.  How on earth does Zeke get another head NBA job?

He doesn't really have a lot of prized recruits, that whole thing was overblown by the media.  His only prize recruit is Dominique Ferguson, a Top 50 combo forward from Indianapolis.  Super talented kid, major headcase.

The rest of Thomas's guys aren't worth the effort.

LastWarrior

I doubt any of them end up at MU, but I'm sure Buzz would give up his left nut to land Ferguson!

Here's a list of their commits: http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/school?schoolId=2229&season=2010

Ferguson sounds like a guy that might likely end up with the tan one.  Indianapolis kid with ties to Zeke (presumably open to suggestion from Zeke if he went all the way down to FIU to play for him).  Odds seem high that Isaiah would point him toward the alma mater.

Note: this is total conjecture based on locale and history.  for all i know, Zeke and Crean have dartboards with the others' picture on them.

Not gonna happen.  IU recruited Ferguson before he commited to FIU, but there were too many people with too much influence pushing him in other directions.

I don't quite understand how someone can be such an utter failure and still keep getting chances.

The Clippers are screwed up as any franchise in the world, but this would absolutely stun me if he is given this job.

He's been amazingly bad.  I remember a couple of years ago when the Knicks were spending somewhere in the neighborhood of $75 million for salaries of guys who weren't even on the team any more.  And that doesn't even include the price tag for Thomas' sexual harassment.  If the Clippers hire him, they're not cursed, they're suicidal.
Never wrestle with a pig.  You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.

Here's what the LA Times said about it

Clippers source doubting Thomas

Whoever "reached out" to Isiah Thomas about taking over the Clippers, as Fox Sports reported, wasn't a Clipper, the Clippers said.

Said a team official: "The Isaiah Thomas who plays for the University of Washington has a better chance of being with us than the other one."

The DePaul rumors would make for an interesting situation if they were to come true.
