Was Buzz's end-of-game plan any worse than Calhoun's today? UConn has NBA talent and is totally undisciplined. Buzz must have done something right to get his team to nearly wipe out a 22-point deficit in a very hostile environment.

so gumby, should they just fire him now?  that seems to be what you're implying.

if you want to blame the late game execution on buzz, you also have to give him credit for the previous 39:30.

I said nothing about firing him.

I did say, though, that he gameplanned well and made nice adjustments.

But, imo, he also stinks at end-of-game situations.

Yes, MU sure stunk at the end of the G'Town game.  And clearly Buzz's fault when Butler hits a fadeaway 21 footer, and clearly Buzz's fault when players buckle on FT shooting in the FSU, Nova, & NC State games.

You sir must hate life.

mviale

I would not question the last minute, but I would question the horrible 1st half.  You have to give credit to buzz and troops for not "waiting for next year" and bringing us back into contention.  The last minute game management conversation is moot without this coaching and team effort.  What do you think of the comeback effort?
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

I say you planned well and meant well with this post, but in the end - you stunk at it.

Can we just be happy we seem to have a very, very competitive team this year?

I can. I like this team better than last year's.

muole

your true colors are really showing through, gumby.  and they certainly are not blue or gold.

you are assuming buzz was confused in the final timeout.  do you have any evidence of that?

and no on is celebrating a close loss.  merely keeping the haters at bay with some logic.

"If people are satisfied with a nice guy (and Buzz is a nice guy...met him at Williams Sonoma at Mayfair last Christmas...he just started talking to my Mom and myself while his wife did the Christmas shopping) that can't get his team over the hump in close games, then so be it.  I'll take the jerk who wins."

no you didn't.  you heavy-handedly IMPLIED it.

avid1010

I didn't hear the interview, and I know Buzz typically knows every bit of detail to a fault.

I do know that everytime a half, game or shot clock is running down and Acker has the ball in his hands something poor happens.  I'm guessing we won't see the ball in Acker's hands too much at the end of any possession.

Virginia Warrior 77

Who cares? The team hasn't been embarassing on the court yet this year.

Sheriff

"Embarassing" is not the term I would use to describe the interview.

Considering how detail oriented Buzz usually is, I would characterize his response to the question regarding the plan last 27 seconds as surprising.  I think he may have been emotionally and mentally spent and preoccupied with his shirt term agenda.  Not a big deal.

Boone

I like how Buzz shows up for his post-game show. Crean, on the other hand, tended to send a proxy after tough losses.

The Lens

College basketball is first and foremost about recruiting.  Mike Deane could coach circles around every coach in our league and it didn't really matter once KO's players ran out.

If Buzz is a better recruiter than TC and on the same level as bench coach, we'll be fine.

The Teal Train has left the station and Lens is day drinking in the bar car.    ---- Dr. Blackheart

I suspect Gumby (appropriate name if based on IQ) is a p*ssed off II,II fan that are starting to realize that St Tommy is not quite the savior that they envisioned.

Most IU fans are happy.  They are up big against Illinois right now and if they hang on, will be 2-1 in the Big Ten.

maybe it's time to find Pokey and get out of town.

They didn't even get a friggin' shot off!!!!

This isn't the first time that's happened with Williams.  He's good at gameplanning, but CYO level at managing end-of-the-game situations.

Someone should do a recap of end of the half and end of the game situations under Buzz and see how often MU gets a decent shot off.

Send your coaching resume to Buzz.  Maybe he will hire you as the "Assistant Coach in Charge of End of Game Situations"

Total gag job in front of a home crowd.

You don't say.

It's never wise to crow when Crean's coaching -- no matter what the lead. I wonder if he bailed on his post game show... ::)

Daniel

I agree - this thread is embarrasing.  We just played the # 6 team twice, and the # 8 and 12 teams, won one, and lost the other three by a total of 5 points.  After we lose JC, Otule and Maymon.

Buzz, and these guys, have kept us in these games.

The Pickle

I am sure most, if not all of you, saw the Connecticut/Georgetown game.  Do you think the shot UConn got off was a great shot?  I wouldn't say so.  Do you think they will rip Jim Calhoun?  Probably not.  I back Buzz 100%.  I believe there was another Marquette coach before Buzz who wasn't great at drawing up plays...

MuMark

I'm sure there are many emotions that IU fans are feeling about now......I don't think happiness is one of them.

What's the latest from Joyville?

MUrugger

You read the incendiary post and then look at the poster and a lot of the rest of it seems pretty predictable.

My question is, who goes Christmas shopping with their Mom?
