Playing Too Timid....
« on: January 09, 2010, 01:32:46 PM »
Villanova is attacking and taking guys off the dribble and our team looks afraid to make a mistake and hence why we have so many early turnovers.

Need to start playing hungry and aggressive....enough passing the ball around the perimeter....attack the basket and then look for kickouts.

I am shocked that we look so scared today. By the way if Cubillan thinks he can repeat Wednesday then that would be amazing, cause he does not look good so far and he is trying to carry the team

Horrific third foul call on Hayward.  I really hate Taylor King.

This could very well be one of the days we feared before the season started. Nova is on a mission and we look terribly outmanned right now.

One guy going one on one and then throwing it up.  Shooting 35% won't get it done.

When this team can't hit its outside shots, they really do not have a lot of options.  It has taken me just a couple of possessions to figure out why Buzz doesn't play EWill much.

Its hard to be aggressive when Hayward gets fouls for being in the proximity of his matchup

They are forcing all the turnovers and getting the easy fast break baskets and we are getting none.....as a small quick team we have to get our share of turnovers and easy buckets also......this is ugly.

Speaking of which, both Fulce and EWill are on the floor together.  Talk about lack of frontline strength.

Horrid first half. Might be the ugliest I've seen us play all season. I honestly have no clue as to what Buzz Williams is thinking with this game.

I don't know how this is Buzz's fault.  They had a number of open looks that they aren't hitting.  They don't have a great deal of options.

Jay Wright is a great coach.

They are exploiting our weaknesses, and stepping out on our deep looks.

We need to mix something up in the second half... more aggression and work the dribble drive more.  Maybe throw in a zone defense for a possession or two.

what could Buzz have done differently other than pull Lazar after the second foul? No coach could win at this place against that team with this roster.

What's he supposed to do with Lazar and Jimmy in foul trouble and nobody making any open jumpers?  Let's face it, we're a 3 point shooting team and when we don't make them, this is what happens: we score 19 points and get embarassed.

Getting out-coached. Vill has made some great adjustments in a week. Playing at home also helps.

The last two possessions, Buycks running down clock at top of key and bombing, then Acker driving and throw-up was terrible.

Without Hayward, the team is really small and has no options.

Didn't realize MU was outscored 32 to 6 in the paint against GT and we won.  Thats unreal.  But when you live or die with the threes, it works sometimes.  Not today so far.

So if we are being outcoached, what are scoopers suggestions. Get E Will on the perimeter to create? Get Mbao in for the 1 3 1 again? I mean lets be honest, Buzz is trying to put out a fire with a leaky bucket.

Buzz needs to incorporate Fulce and Williams in the offense.  If not, why not just play with three players on the court?  They should of expected the day when Jimmy and Lazar would be in foul trouble together.  If Buzz doesn't figure something out, this could be as ugly as the Louisville lost 4 years ago.

This is the first game in awhile that Hayward has been in foul trouble/non factor and it shows.

Is this what it will be like next year, cause I don't see anyone on bench or SF/PF commitments enroute.

Easy enough... lets have guys with no perimeter game and no post up ability the ball. That will be successful.

Cmon, their only value is on the defensive end, rebounding and put back buckets. No matter what Buzz does that won't change

How?  I see no offensive skills at this point by either one of them.  They both look like the 65yo guy that sometimes plays basketball with us...game is way too fast for them.

If they could get a stop on the defensive end I'd say give it to Joe for the catch and shoot.  Can't get any defensive stops though. Really frustrating.

not really, though I do understand the joke.

They are stepping out on our deep shots, and we have shot 9 three's all game... Hayward has 2 points and 2 rebounds.  We are so far off our game.

At 12:34 in the second, Nova finally missed a shot.  Think that was the first miss in the second half.

When a team is up 22 with 15 to play, at least they have something to talk about.

I do think the Yarou foul was the punch in the gut they needed.

Too bad it was another 3 pt loss.

Played like heck in the last 15 minutes...but I'm sure Buzz will cover the other 25 minutes.
