$5 mil for MU Engineering
« on: January 04, 2010, 08:04:49 PM »
MU just landed $5 million in state funding for the new engineering facility.

MU also "has enough cash on hand to complete the first $35-million phase of the project, with ground breaking scheduled for March."

Didn't the dental school also receive state funding?

Yes, but under some stipulations that they open up clinics for the community--so I've heard. My dentist graduated from MU, and he and one of his dental hygienists were talking about how the dental school was pretty much forced by the state to drop the dental hygienist program that we once had. The idea was that associates programs at technical schools like MATC could pick up the hygienist degree.

This engineering thing is interesting, though, because the administration was having a tough time pushing for this money a few months ago- http://dailyreporter.com/blog/2009/04/03/marquette-goes-it-alone-on-building-project/

They also take the money under the assumption that tuition would be kept lower since it is the only dental school in the state.
