More phone friendly
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:34:30 AM »
I'm just curious if we can make this site more mobile phone accessible?  I'm not sure how difficult this would be but if it can be done rather easily it would really help out.

An iPhone app would be sweet but if we can make mobile site that would help. Sometimes I need to look up things or want to post something before/during games and I need go here but it's super inconvenient.

Add ?wap, ?wap2, or ?imode onto the end of the url.

http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?wap2
http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?imode

Sorry, I didn't read the other thread discussion before I replied.  The above links are if you'd like the site to automatically use the mobile version when browsing.

As for making an iPhone app it looks like there is an iPhone theme for the forum software we use but for SMF 2.0.  Once SMF releases 2.0 (right now it's in beta) we'll be able to test something like that but right now I can't find any reviews of it to say how well it works.  Up until this point nobody in the SMF community has been able to come up with a fully functional. SMF iPhone theme for the current released versions.  I've just gotten adept at zooming in and out to read everything on my phone running Android :P

Edit:  It looks like the guy that wrote SMF4iPhone is porting it to SMF 1.1.10 according to this thread.  He hasn't given an update in a couple months, but here's to hoping!

Yeah, the Android browser seems to work fine - you get full html.

For some browsers though, the site automatically switches to "WAP" mode, so you only get basic functionality.  We're (slowly) working on getting SMF2.0 RC2 ready to go (can't wait much longer for the full release), and that has a

Option which will allow the site to come up as the full version.

Unfortunately, unless SMF does it automatically, I don't plan on adding a specific iphone version of the site.  It'd be slick, but their default WAP2 site seems fine to me if you don't want to browse full HTML (which I prefer anyway).
