Wow, what a win for these guys.

I like the rotation Buzz is using, more consistency than previous games. EWill not getting anytime and Fulce a minute.  Man, come on EWill we need you.

DJO and Buycks are players and have that street ball game.  Vander Blue must be drooling and can't wait to play with them next year.

Lets do this Sunday.

lurch91

This team may not be the most talented team in the BEAST this year, but boy do they work hard.

Great win!

Ackar and Cubillian have improved, and stepped up their games this year.  They'll still have problems against bigger gaurds, but they have done a great job so far.

Can't wait to play the badgers (can we all agree that UM is more talented than the badgers?).  Should be a great game at the Kohl.

77ncaachamps

Ewill needs experience and Fulce will only spell Hayward or Butler when needed.
Against this team, they wouldn't have provided the speed or offense we needed.

But DJO is looking like a stud. Butler's easily next year's leader. Acker is running the PG better than Coobs...and is really harassing the guards (when they're outside the key). Good to see JMay score. He needs to watch and taste this success to make him hungrier.

Let's win this thing!!!

GO MU!

Some observations:

We are extremely athletic.  Despite height disadvantage we are a huge matchup problem for most teams.

DJO's shot fake is sick.  Once he knocks down a few to keep the D honest, his ball fake is lethal.

I am extremely thankful Acker decided to come back.

I agree, this is FUN!  GO MARQUETTE!

This is a lot of fun!!!

I know a post is coming about us being ranked, but can we not do that!! We are good but not there yet, need to win some more games, and shoot better. Here is the real question, who is re-looking at the schedule and saying that there are more winable games now? I now count at least a .500 record in BE.

One at a time boys, one at a time!

DJO's shot fake, plus left-handed - truly sick indeed.  DJO and Buycks drives are setting up wide open three looks -- that will make us hard to beat, especially when we're hot. Hayward and Butler always solid.

Suprises to me so far:

How game-ready DJO and Buycks are, they look like veterans.
Cooby/Acker being able to provide solid minutes and stepping up with their shooting.
The intensity of the overall D -- sure they got burned on some back doors, but they deny the ball well.
Maymon's lack of vertical leap.

Blowing away my expectations.

My only complaint: The "Overrated" chant at the end of the game.

Mods, can you issue an edict outlawing the use of that chant by Marquette fans?

Benny B

Stuck at the in-laws all weekend. Thankfully they have ESPN. But when your mother-in-law's creepy second husband is a hard core Michigan fan who doesn't shut up, a big win almost makes the holidays tolerable.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

MarquetteDano

Agree on the fun.  I am really surprised how good this team has played defensively.  The rotations have gotten better just from the first game.  There are still limitations, but much better than I thought they would play.

By the way, was all that booing from the Michigan fans?  Every single ref call was booed.  Ridiculous.  They are actually worse than the Looeyville fans with the constant booing of the refs.

I posted this on another thread but it bears repeating.  Buzz can coach.  He's got these guys playing hard and playing smart.  Good changes during the game to mix things up and I cankt recall ever seeing our zone offense so productive.  I used to dread zones but we make people pay for going zone on us now.

+1.  As Digger Phelps would say, he can flat-out coach.

Nah.. cuz.. you know.. us mods are kinda overrated... and.. well.. you know.. don't really control the whole Marquette fan universe.. you know..
Once a warrior always a warrior.. even if the feathers must now come with a beak.

No doubt this is fun!

1.  Agreed about the "overrated" chant.  Unnecessary!  I never liked it when we beat "better" teams or lost to lesser opponents.

2.  Enjoy the wins this holiday weekend, but as someone already stated.....one game at a time.  There is a lot of basketball left and I suspect that the top 8 teams in the Big East are as good if not better than Xavier and Michigan so lets not getting too carried away with win total predictions.  To further the point, all of the talking heads were saying how the Big East was going to be "down" this year.  The league got off to what, a 42-0 start, and now the Big East is cleaning up hardware in all of these preseason tournaments.  Conclusion...the Big East is going to be brutal again this year.

3.  What a GREAT start to the holiday weekend!

Sorry to sound like Debbie downer.  Just want to reel in expectations a bit.

When Johnson-Odom gets his guy on in the air with the pump fake he should "go into him" for the defensive foul.   Will get the call the majority of the time.   Otherwise have been really impressed with Buzz's work so far with these guys.   If he can land his big.....good things.

Big East schedule re-assess

After watching ND tonight, I'm not sure MU shouldn't beat them, as well. Only games that are looking like games in which it'd be a big surprise MU winning are early, at 'nova, 'cuse, UConn and WV. If MU splits the games against nova, U of L, ND, Gtown at home, and at UC and SJU ... My opinion on MU goes up every time I watch them play and a lot of times I watch other teams in the BE play.
GO WARRIORS!

Stone Cold, I share your sentiments.

I wonder how Snaer will feel after FSU loses to Bama, or other recruits who have decided to spurn MU!

I hate that move, you shouldn't be able to jump into guys to draw fouls...sure if he's in your path to score around the hoop, but leaping to the side to draw contact on a jump shot is truly a punk move and not called as much as it used to.

Disagree completely. Nothing at all "punk" about taking advantage of bad defense. If a guy leaves his feet on a pump fake, that's his problem.

Ditto on Acker, he is playing fabulous. Yea he is tiny, but he is crazy quick and making very smart decisions with the ball. He played 29 minutes today with zero turnover against a defense that can be tricky.

I agree completely. Even when opponents have switched up the D on us, it doesn't seem to even take a possession or two for the offense to adjust. That was the case last year too, but I took that as evidence of the experienced guards we had out there. With a new group that is just learning to play together, I'm so pleasantly surprised with the way they are playing.

The stretch in today's game was very encouraging when Michigan cut in to one early in the second half. Instead of getting rattled, we went on a run and Michigan never really threatened after that.

This team will be fun to watch, just like last year's. They'll have to scrap like crazy given the size disadvantage, but they will give it all they've got in the process.

I don't mean to overstate the significance of a couple nice wins, but given the potential these guys have demonstrated the last couple days, it bums me out even more that Otule is out for the year just to have a body with some size out there. Oh well--these guys will still hold their own as they are.
