5 points in like 4 minutes so far in the jazz spurs game.  I thought he would make  a team and be a contributor, but if he keeps playing the way he has so far, I would not be surprised to see him crack the starting lineup a few games this season.

mu_hilltopper

Haven't watched an NBA game in eons .. Wes got in the game, scored 5 points with 2 rebounds and a steal in about 3 minutes of play.

AWESOME!

Just love seeing him playing out there.

mu89

he's killing it right now. leading the team with 7 pts.

Wes is fearless.  He is driving right to the net, taking the contact and still finishing!

And to think he should have been starting for the Bulls now.

He is doing some things.

Just missed an attack to the hoop in transition, but he attacked and the Jazz got the bucket.

He, in the last few games, has had more minutes than Price and Maynor.  I don't want to be too optomistic but he is contributing and could stick around for awhile.  The fact that Deron likes him and his style doesn't hurt his chances.

Go Wes! (I had to guard him in man to man when I was a senior and he was a sophomore in high school--good times)

P.S.  Loved the chuck down of Ginobili during the box out.

Glorious.

It's not about ME,
It's about US.

Wes is getting a lot of love from Doug Collins and...(other dude?).

He's getting a lot of praise along the lines of "this could be Wesley Matthews' coming out party" and something about him giving the Jazz a shot in the arm with sucha depleted bench.

Lots of well-deserved and hard-earned love for Wes, for sure.

MUfan12

Doug Collins has been talking up Wesley big time tonight!

He's played a very good game tonight. Rarely caught out of position on defense, and makes the right decisions offensively. Couldn't be happier for him!

Jay Bee

25 minutes, 12 pts on 5/8 shooting (1/2 3's, 1/3 FT's), 3 boards, 2 steals, 0 TO's.  Big win for the Jazz, great game for Wes..

How did you do?

My brother when he was a senior had to guard Rob Logterman, who was a sophomore at the time.  He absolutely lit my brother up!  He still talks about it with some pride though!

kmwtrucks

How did he shot 1/3 FT's. he was money his senior year.  What did he shoot?  85%?  and he shoot a ton of FT's as well.  I think he has a record for most made in a season.

4everwarriors

I have a friend who grew up in San Diego who showed me a picture of Sidney Wicks climbing over his back for a rebound. Wicks was about 6'8" and my friend on a good day with platform sneakers is 5'8".

from the Salt Lake City Tribune:

[Matthews, meanwhile, played 25 minutes, including the entire fourth quarter ahead of Ronnie Brewer. While first-round draft pick Eric Maynor did not play until the final two minutes, Matthews continued to establish himself in the Jazz's rotation.

"I ain't got words for it right now," Matthews said. "I'm just excited ... . To get this win tonight against a team like that, it's just a great feeling."]

Great night! Though some english profs may cringe.

Never a doubt....now I just need JM to land somewhere and 4ever will have to pay up on the bet.

;D

Jerel McNeal is a GM's worst nightmare....his basketball IQ is sooooo terrible.  he is the type of player that makes GM's look bad for signing him.  If it were not for his basketball IQ jerel has the physical tools to play in the NBA but the NBA if nothing else is a thinking mans game too and therefore has no place for JM.

not saying Jerel is dumb I have no clue on that.  Simply the worst decison maker I have seen in 30+ years of following MU bball.

Not so well :)

Back in the day (7 years ago) I had some quicks and as a senior I knew a lot of little tricks to bother him.  He still ended up with like 12 points and I don't know how many assists.  He didn't have to do too much on the offensive end because their team was a lot better than ours.  I think they ended up winning by about 9-12 on our home gym (the game, after halftime was a 10-15 pt. lead for them the whole way)

I do take pride in playing him though.  I loved it when he came to MU and now he's in the NBA it's a fun story to tell my buddies... "did you know I played him in high school.  Yeah, I had to cover him man to man" (I then make something up about how I picked him and dunked it from the free throw line.)

what is happening to Wes at the foul line.  His percentage is way down from is MU days.  An easy way to pick up points and stay in the game in the 4th.
