Right now Wes is leading the Jazz in scoring against the Bulls. I know it is only preseason but I am excited to see Wes in the NBA he's a five tool player and I think he will be similar to Scottie Pippen in the NBA.

What are the 5 tools?

Take the blue and gold glasses off.

I always figured he would be playing in Europe.   ;)

Im aware, I didnt think my question needed teal...

You think all of his tools are NBA ready?

And Scottie Pippen was 6'8"

As of 8:00 left in the game - Wes was on the bench.

Not a bad stat line.  The 3 blocked shots are still a bit of a concern.

In my opinion Wes will be able to be the type of player Sloan
wants and needs him to be. He is capable of playing the 2 or 3
at the NBA level. His game will allow him to adapt to different
matchups playing at both positions.

I think he can be a player the Jazz look for for 10-20 minutes
a game this year, at least progressing towards that amount of
pt.

If the Jazz players keep getting injured, he has a chance to make the 15 man roster. More likely to spend time in the NBDL.
Wes has a good pedigree, a pro body, and good work etiquette.

I've watched Scottie Pippen, don't know Scottie Pippen, but you, Wes Matthews, are no Scottie Pippen.

Agreed.  Wes tips much better than no tippin Pippen.

Check out his statline.  It appears once again that Wes had 3 shots blocked.

That now makes him 6-14 in the preason with 6 of his 8 missed shots coming because he was blocked.

mugrad99

It shows he is being aggressive with the ball. I prefer to look at the positives. 50% from the filed, 75% from 3, no turnovers and a positive +/-

Pretty good game.

Boone

He's a rook in his 2nd exhibition game...he'll learn soon enough what he can and can't do on offense versus NBA players.

I've stood next to Scottie Pippen and a 6-foot-5 friend of mine. Scottie had him by an inch.

10-20 minutes a game!?!?

If Wes makes the team, I doubt he plays half that...with a lot of DNPs on his box score.  It's preseason.

MU in Miami

Utah news coverage and message board extremely positive for Wes...

Wesley Matthews making an nba team and getting serious minutes shouldn't be a shock to anybody.  When Buzz Williams got a hold of him and let him off the leash Tom Crean had him on for 3 years, he was clearly our best player.  He has the perfect NBA body, can shoot the outside shot, can play D on the bigger 2 guards in the nba, and will play for a minimum contract.  I always felt bad for him.  If Crean had any idea how to run an offense, Matthews would have been the all time leading scorer, a possible first team all american, and might have bolted early for the nba draft had he been able to shine earlier on.  If for some odd reason he gets cut by Utah, why the bucks, or a team like the knicks wouldn't sign him to a contract would only show why these organizations are seen as embarrassments.

Crean started Matthews on day 1.  Matthews missed 8 games early in his career due to a stress fracture--not because Crean held him back.

Has Nothing to do with playing, it does however have to deal with HOW Crean used him.

Hasn't made the team, either.

That said, Sloan giving him half the game does have things looking up for Wes.

I get this feeling, because the NBA didn't draft the 3 Amigos a great majority of our fan base is giving up on them being able to play in the NBA.  Keep up the great effort Wes!
