Six players - That's where Buzz got his rotation idea from!

Whenever someone brings up reviving the classic uniforms of the past the "bumblebees" always gets mentioned.  Why no love for the true classic/throwback -- the black "wifebeaters" and "jorts" of 1915-16?!?!?!   ;D

GooooMarquette

Anybody know if they ever sell replicas of those '15-'16 jerseys at the Spirit Store?

I was referring to the strategy of voluntarily sitting one of your three best players (when you really only have 3 1/2 high D-I players) for a quarter of the game on the chance that he might foul out.  I also pointed out that it is a common strategy and that Buzz is not alone in employing it.  Without argument the strategy reduces the number of minutes the player that sits plays.  You are purposely misconstruing my argument, which to this point no one has refuted in basketball terms other than to imply that I don't know what I'm talking about or to say that the strategy worked fine because we had the lead late (I thought the point was to win the game).  Why is 20 minutes the magic number where a guy with two fouls can start playing again instead of 22 minutes.  Or 24 minutes?  Anyway, it would be nice to bring up a philosophical discussion like that and actually have the result be a basketball discussion.

I think its psychological.  When a player picks up his 2nd foul in the first half, they become very tentative.  Same as when a player picks up his 3rd very early in the second half or 4th foul anytime before the last 4-5 minutes of the game.

You put Hayward back in the first half and if the other team is smart, they will attack that player relentlessly the rest of the half knowing that if he picks up that third foul so that he will play tentatively most of the second half.  Remember Buzz did gamble on that with McNeal against Tennessee and he got burned badly as McNeal picked up a third and was never aggressive the rest of the game.

So Buzz is probably thinking Butler/Acker/Burke at 100% effort on both sides of the ball are just as good or nearly as good as Hayward at say 60% and he needs to get through 10 minutes so that Hayward can start the second half at at 100% aggressiveness.

I guess I would rather have an all out aggressive effort from another player than be non-aggressive on both ends of the court.  Also, with Hayward playing as a big, there is going to be lots of banging going on down low where you are at the mercy of the refs.  They could really call anything at any point in time in which case we are really up a river and probably don't come back at all against Mizzou.
