Didn't Buzz say that he still talks to Taylor's parents, and even had them attend when we played Rutgers?  Plus, I think he said that we'll continue to recruit from St. Benedicts.

Whatever.  Good luck to Taylor and Kansas.  And by good luck, I mean "7+ turnovers and a 2-9 performance from the field", but mostly because I want Kansas to lose.

Hurley is a high school phys ed teacher. Pompous jerk who longs for his 15 minutes of fame with each of his kids.

Then I'm off on my understanding, which isn't much, but I thought he ran the rec. department and turned down many college jobs to remain where he is.  I'm sure he's doing more than fine financially, but I seem to think a guy with an ego would be more likely to go the Bo Ryan way.  I never heard of him being a PE teacher, not that that would discredit him; however I heard he was a probation officer and then ran a rec. department that served many needy kids...

Hurley has won more than 900 games and is a finalist for the Basketball Hall of Fame this year - hardly a simple "phys ed teacher" who is looking for fame. He coaches at a school that helps kids with rough backgrounds have a chance and, the school, is a private one that is cash-strapped, much like many others around the country. Hurley is not getting rich coaching at St. Anthony's.

Those are the facts, regardless of what he said about MU.

Shack

I'm sure Hurley doesn't have to recruit players for his school either.   They just flock to St. Anthony's because of his reputation for always caring and always looking out for a kid's best interest.   People in glass houses ............

Oregon Warrior's take is consistent with my understanding of Hurley.  I really admire what he has done -- for many, many years-- at St. Anthony's.  And his dedication there extends beyond the basketball court. The TT thing tarnished the man's image for me, but it doesn't negate the work he has done, and continues to do. (OK, for that matter, I really like Bobby Knight, and look at some of the crazy-ass stuff that guy's done.)

By the same token, I hate it when someone takes a shot at my favorite Bball program, MU.  Which is why I posted earlier that the article made me a little sick.

Nearly a year later, the whole TT situation just continues to feel so lose-lose.

Buzz seems determined to get beyond it, and I applaud him for it. I'm gonna take a page from the Buzzer's book, and move on too.

If Buzz wants to continue to recruit kids from Hurley, fine, I trust his judgment. I wouldn't do it. Who's to say Hurley wouldn't steer them away from MU again?

Tulsa Warrior

"emailed the reporter about getting the facts ( parent/ guardian can only ask for release etc.) straight and about a call to MU"

Here is a part of what I got back: " MU had no issue with what I reported. They elected not to discuss the matter on the record."  So much for someone at MU having a back bone or are they scared of Hurley for future recruits?"

Here's my comment  -- give me a break.  The reporter should have gotten something on background and not for specific attribution.  If you don't have haven't lived up to your ethical obligation as a journalist.  He made the decision to put together a one sided story.  The quote above is a lazy reporting covering his backside.

Taylor's dream school was Kansas. He visited Kansas early in his recruitment but never got an offer. With Crean leaving, Taylor's dream school became a reality and all Hurley did was make sure one of his players went to their highest level. He didn't steer him away from MU.

MU wouldn't have had an issue with what he reported, because he wouldn't have revealed the spirit of the piece, nor the text of it, when/if he contacted them.  So his comment is presumptuous.
