That '71 team was the best Al ever had. If Chones did'nt go pro (no brainer for Chones)  I'd bet my life that we would have won the national championship that year. I also saw us, ranked #1 beat Fordham, ranked 4th in the country and which put Digger on the map, in double overtime at the Garden.

I think the Reece Gaines game was the biggest home game in MU history.  In addition to it as the potential "we've arrived" game, it was our one shot at proving that Marquette was one of the upper tier teams (after the move to the Big East, we get to prove it 3 times in one week).

It's also the best game I've ever been to without consideration to who won.

Yeah, Chones left in the 71-72 season with Marquette  having a 21-0 record at the time. MU went 4-4 over the last 8 games without him.

THEGYMBAR

The MU/UNC in 1986 was the biggest hyped game that I remember. It was not the biggest game in Milwaukee but it was big. The whole weekend was a buzz. Starting Friday night at The Gym Bar where Coach Rick made an appearance, then the Dayton game and all bets were off. The campus was jumping all weekend.

I remember vividly walking into the Arena on Sunday afternoon after a dozen beers and the place was packed an hour before tipoff. Nobody sat until the sad ending. That game unofficially ended the Rick Majerus era. Having Al in the house made it even bigger for freaks like me that idolized the man.

Plenty of MU/UW and MU/ND games had a ton of pregame hype. The MU/Russian game at midnight was special event.

This game is hands down the biggest BC game for MU. The students and alums will be at a fevered pitch. If we win it will be second biggest win in post Al era, only DWade beating Kentucky will top it. The time is now and we have the studs to do it.

LETS GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!
