Just back from the St. Louis U vs Dayton game.  I sat there the whole game saying "how did we lose to this team."  Not very impressive team.

or South Florida?
The SF game had the makings of a upset.MU comes in unbeaten in the BE and a top 10 ranking. They had a bullseye on their back.

The dayton game was a week after thanksgiving - the results have no merit

They're 23-4.  They are 12 deep, we were 4 deep at that time.  Give em a break, they're a very good team and going to the NCAAs.

MR.HAYWARD

How, very simply...they played well ...we played poorley...they are pretty good....Mu still has a tendency to fall inot the trap of feeling that we are so good offensively that we dont have to play defense.  When we do that we become extremely beatable.  We fell into that trap that night.  LEts hope that lesson has been learned and we do not see that team raise it s ugly head again

MarquetteFan94

We were flat that night...they had the crowd and the energy....and Rob Lowery who lit us up for 20+ that night is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Doris Burkes Thong

How does Boston College go into North Carolina and beat them and then in their next game lose to Harvard at BC?

Dayton has a good team and one heckuva NBA prospect in Chris Wright.

I likewise am back from the SLU-Dayton game, and I will simply say it was a classic SLU game. I said before the game, "I've seen this before. First team to 50 wins," and SLU won 56(?)-49.

Things I saw tonight

Two SLU players fighting for the same rebound run into each other, enabling Dayton to collect the rebound

A wide-open dunk that was bricked.

It was astonishingly bad. Thank god for booze that made A-10 basketball borderline watchable.

How David ever beat Goliath...that won still ticks me off.  G's SOS was really eff'd up by that loss.

Seriously. That loss and the Tennessee loss (at TN) are somewhat understandable. How there is a thread entitled "How did we lose to Dayton" but no thread entitled "How in God's name did we lose to South Florida" is the most illogical thing I will encounter this week and it is Sunday morning.

Dayton is a very good team. They're ranked for crying out loud.
We Are Marquette

Pakuni

On the drive to the Dayton game I said "For Marquette to lose this game, they'll have to play about as bad as they can play and Dayton will have to play about as well as they can play."
And that's exactly what happened.

Marquette Mama

I was at the Dayton game... and I think Pakuni's post nails it.

Daniel

I was at the game too - Dayton played unbelieveably well.  We didn't.  And I think that's the last game we came in over-confident - I thought Buzz said something like this too sometime afterwards.

damuts222

Dayton's starting point guard is out for the season, and like what has been said by several others there whole bench gets playing time. Which means that they will probably be a threat for the tourney in years to come giving their younger guys some pt. Marquette is 7 or 8 players deep and nobody outside of butler is a threat to score, hazel or cubillan don't even look to shoot.

Hey DeDe

I too was at the Dayton game. It was horrible to watch as a Marquette fan, however, I was very impressed with Dayton. Marquette gave them a lot of opportunities and they took every one. After watching them play and win, I knew they were going to have a great season. And they are -- at least in my opinion.

I agree with Burke, but I think Butler has played well enough to make us 4-skip 1-5 deep

DomJamesToTheBasket

Dayton is a good team. Yeah they lost to Saint Louis, but does that make them bad? If it does, then we are HORRIBLE because of our loss to USF.

Big Papi

Dayton is a good team.  We have no depth.  It was the second game in back to back games so tired legs.  McNeal was in foul trouble.  We couldn't contain their quick guards.  Dayton wanted it more.

HoopsMalone

New coach, different offense.  Losing Ooz, Blackledge, and Fitz was probably a bigger loss than people think until Butler has shown that he can play lately.

Also, McNeal fouled out like he has done in all four of our losses.

No shame in losing to Dayton though, and to be honest, losing a conference game on the road is not that big of deal to South Florida.  It is a big deal because we could be breathing easier on finishing top 4 in conference right now, but overall not a big deal.  Don't forget, 2 years ago we lost to North Dakota State or something like that after beating Duke.  That was way worse of a loss at home.
