People still think Wisconsin is as good as in years past?

The Lens

Not only is this UW team not as good as year's past; the conference has also gotten a lot better.  I don't think the NIT is out of the question.

What the heck is Wisconsin doing? They're cheapening their loss to us! ;)

Big Ten's only really good team lost to the second worst team in their conference... at home.

That's why I thought  7 teams from the Big Ten going to tourney was too high.

Andy Katz was just on ESPNU saying Bo Ryan will be the lead candidate for the Arizona job this offseason. It's Arizona! It's Arizona!

It's where old people retire...makes sense.

Bo Ryan is hurting to find recruits and will continue as long as Tubby Smith is coaching at Minnesota.  Wisconsin always found a way to keep talent from the midwest, especially Minnesota, from flying the coop to teams in other conferences.  It is interesting to note how as Minnesota's stock has risen, UW's has steadily fallen.  Add to that Marquette's return to national prominence and it makes Bo's job that much more impossible.

Are you always a glass-half-empty kinda guy?

I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you...but what's your point? Is that not a good win?

Some folks here were trying to paint it as if Wisconsin was some juggernaut this year.  They aren't.  That's all.  I was curious if those people still felt that way.

It's a good win, not a great win as so many were trying to portray it.   They just aren't that good.  DKC also is correct in saying the Big Ten is finally decent this year, the first time in about a 6 or 7 years.  Finally they have some competition to play against, though losing to Iowa is inexcusable, especially with their best player not even playing.

Will Bucky beat IU is the question?  Bo's rotation is a mess.  I think Wilson should start as he needs quickness, but he barely plays.  Bucky Board thinks Leuer is NBA material, which is a stretch if not a gross overestimation.  Nankivil is a wash out this year.  Bo didn't start him tonight, and went with Gullikson.  They played Texas well, but these last two games have left Bo dumbfounded in his time outs with a very perplexed look on his face.  He desperately needs to play zone defense with his talent, but won't budge from man.  Judging from his recruits, he might not  contend in the B10 for at least three seasons.  He needs to find the right mix.

MUBasketball

Ahhh, certainly no juggernaut. They are kind of streaky this year. They have beaten Va Tech on the road (Va Tech is one of those teams that's hard to get a read on as well, but they did just beat the #1 team in the country), really should have beaten Texas, and gave UConn all it wanted for a majority of that game. Granted, they ended up losing the Texas and UConn games and that's all that matters, but that proves what they are capable of. Regardless, still a very good win over them IMO.

They lose quite a bit in the offseason...I don't think it's out of the question to think MU could go into the KC and win next season. How great would that be? 3 in a row, with the series coming back to the BC. I'm getting ahead of myself though...

Seems surprising to me that Bo can't get more out of all those 'Mr. BBall's he has on the team.  I noticed he benched Trebon Hughes in the 2nd half, finally realizing the t/o's were killing him.  And Taylor was a great improvement.  I wonder how great a career Nankivill would have had at MU, instead of languishing at UW.

MR.HAYWARD

Any time MU beats Wisconsin it is agreat win!!! Any way you cut it, just like any time Michigna beats OSU in football or UCLA beats USC it is agreat win.  I could care less how good UW is, in fact I would prefer they suck and I would still consider the Win over UW to be great.

Chicos why dont you go stuff it up your blow hole,  50,000 posts and you have not said anythin intelligent yet.  Are you somebodies mother?  Who needs your coming on here and reminding everyone how smart you were 2 months ago and that everyone should listen to you.  When you make 50K post you might be right once or twice and then dominate the board for a week telling everyone about it.

UW was a great win, now STFU!

Big Papi

I didn't see the game yesterday but I wouldn't say that UW is a lot worse than last year.  Lets not forget that Bucky has been a very good program over the last few years that has regularly competed and won the Big 10 crown. The problem for Bucky this year is that while they have taken a small step back, a lot of teams in the Big 10 have a taken a huge step forward.  Minnesota, Northwestern, Penn St and Michigan in particular have gone from horrible to pretty darn good when compared to the last few years.  Michigan State and Purdue are also better this year than last.  While the Big 10 is not on par with the ACC or  Big East, it does have depth and talent that is better than the SEC and Pac 10 and is probably third on totem pole.

All this thread is really trying to do is minimize the accomplishment of MU while taking some fun jabs against a heated rival.  Bucky is a good team and our win against them still looks pretty darn good.

Dude   Chill

every stupid loss to a bum team like Iowa makes the UW win less great.

As a resident of Wisconsin, I love beating Bucky.  I don't need to take junk from smug Badger fans, but realistically, that win does less and less for us with every Badger loss.

Not that Wisconsin is particularly good this year, but a road loss in overtime isn't exactly the worst thing ever, nor an especially meaningful indicator of the team's overall ability.
I seem to recall a MU Final Four team losing on the road to an East Carolina squad that certainly was not better than Iowa. Did that mean that MU team was awful ... or that games in conference play, particularly road games in conference play, sometimes result in upsets? I'm voting with the latter.

As for what it does for Marquette, probably not much. UW currently is #17 in the RPI, and one road loss isn't going to send them tumbling too far. So long as UW remains in the top 50, that will be considered a "good" win.

Who cares what the "loss does for us"  give me a break.  In fact...bacuse some people only want to deal in "facts'  yet qualify all their "opinions" as "facts".  According to the RPI numbers it did not "hurt" us at all.  Only the people that make 50,000 posts telling everyone how smart they are think the commitee or the "theys" they refer to sit in a room and will look at our entire resume at the end of the year and say "well you know, that wisconsin win is really not a big win, therefore lets throw out the results of the other 33 games and knock them down aseed or two, and in the mean time send them an offical NCAA letter telling them that is really not a big win"
Give a freaking break....maybe UW wins 10 straight and then Chicos and you can tell us all it really is abig win ...thanks for nothing

I don't know, Mr. H, from the tone of your post, it sounds to me like  you're getting the Blue Demon pre-game jitters.  Stay calm, Saturday will be here before you know it.

I thought they were pretty lousy after our game with them, but then for a while I started to think that win was looking better. After the past week or two however, I am back to being convinced they just aren't very good.

I certainly hope so, because it is the only quality non-conference win we have.

I said that the UW win does LESS for us....That is to say that it would do MORE for us if UW were ripping it up.  The Iowa loss may, as you posit, not hurt us much at all...but it doesn't help.

A little Valium would probably help.

Winning at NC State is nice. Who cares how many high-quality OOC wins we get? We've already beaten Nova and WVU. If we get in-conference wins against Syracuse, Gtown and UConn, we'll be just fine.

How in the world can anyone watch Wisconsin play basketball?  Sure Bo gets them some wins, but at what cost?  It's supposed to be an exciting spectator sport and he reduces it to nothing more than a grind.
