No big deal. He was scared of having to compete for minutes with Maymon and Williams. According to our MUScoop poster GYMBAR, Wilson isn't that good anyways.

Treutelaar said Marquette informed Wilson on Oct. 28 that they were no longer offering a scholarship. But two weeks later, Wilson said, the school contacted his father - James "Peanut" Wilson, who played on UW-Whitewater's 1984 NCAA Division III championship team - and said their offer was back on the table.

"That didn't make sense. I didn't really like that," Wilson said. "I told my father to tell them I didn't like them playing head games with me, and I told them they were off my list."

Ummm .. what the heck was going on there.  I guess that's not a surprise, as it follows what we had heard, but I had always hoped what we'd heard was wrong.

This is pure conjecture, but maybe the scholarship withdrawal was a signal for other recruits concerned about a race for that scholarship that he/they didn't have to worry about Jamil taking it.  Then, maybe that recruit(s) decides to go elsewhere, and Wilson got the offer back... or it didn't happen that way at all.

A confusing finish to a recruitment that looked all set to be MU prior to Crean's departure. The good news is that this latest tidbit doesn't leave us hanging at all since Buzz has recruited the greatest class to MU in 15 years.

Not Kool Aid Perry, but something along those lines. Time to move on for all involved.

Another jab at Buzz from Chicos.

IWB and Mark know what's going on, and says that is not the way it happened.

A jab?  I don't think so.  What jabs am I taking at Buzz?  Is this going to be a situation that we're never allowed to question a substitution, etc or it's a jab at Buzz?  I hope that's not the case.

It just sounded like a strange way to recruit.  I'm sure IWB does know what's going on and I'm sure over on that board he had a winking icon, perhaps he was even out of town.  What's unfortunate is that whatever the "real story" is, the one that's out there in the newspaper is the one that Jamil Wilson just put out there....whether it's accurate or not it's the one that's in the ether.

At the very least, Jamil Wilson must feel that's how it went down....right?  Otherwise, why would he say it?

MUBasketball

Oh, sorry Chicos. I thought I picked up heavy sarcasm with your initial comment.

OK c'mon, that was a Scout jab, that much I know!

Regardless, glad this whole thing is over with, from MU's perspective anyway. I wanted Wilson, and am disappointed things worked out this way, but if he's not commited to MU, so be it.

ecompt

Best of luck. If he continues to slide the way he has, he won't be overwhelming for Izzo either, though he won't be facing the same athletes at the Little 10 that he would have faced in the BE.

I could see him saying something to those lines to make himself look better.

Wilson's recruitment has been so wacky that at this point I am inclined to give Buzz the benefit of the doubt.

Plain and simple, I don't think Buzz was sold on this kid, and I think Buzz has proven he knows a thing or two about recruiting be it at MU or his prior jobs.

None of us know what happened for sure, but what we all do know is that a few weeks ago it was reported that MU wasn't recruiting Wilson any longer.  Then after a short time, we started hearing rumors (confirmed by Mark Miller) that MU was recruiting him again.  At the time I thought it was strange, and I think a lot of the posters thought the off again, on again approach was a bit strange.

But I think what we heard all along is consistent with what Wilson said:  Marquette said they weren't recruiting him, and then they were recruiting him again.  The only additional information that Wilson put out there in this article is that the approach turned him off.  I don't think this is an issue of giving Buzz the benefit of the doubt, because I don't think Wilson is saying anything different than what we all heard.

Gymbar - you are strangely silent.  S'up with all this?

and by the way, Jamil. au revoir and don't let the door hit you on the butt on the way out.

From Today's JSOnline...

And Wilson is likely to keep playing for some time after announcing his college choice on March 8 - his mother's birthday. He said he's down to three schools now after doing a little dance with Marquette University that ended last week.

So Wilson will consider Michigan State, Oregon and Texas until decision day. But mostly, he'll be thinking about his senior season.

MU B2002

I am a little confused on this one...  Aren't we out of scholarships anyway? Or is the consensous, amongst informed people who pretend to know, that we were trying to get one more to make up for someone leaving/not making grades?

ATWiz---Why would you take pleasure in possibly losing a top recruit? I will believe Wilson goes elsewhere when he goes elsewhere. Playing close to home means something to him.

I know understand why MU ball is eld to the standard that is by some fans. The unprofessional manner hire was conducted and "fans" happy we lose a recruit. Sad reflection on the proram in my opinion.

Back in the day---everday true fan knew who the recruits were and were disappointed when they got away.

And I know Cadougan is a stud, Maymon is a stud, Williams has an extremely high ceiling, and Roseboro is a late bloomer with size and a decent shot.  Buycks also gives us more experience in the back court next year as we lose the 3 seniors.  Where would Wilson fit in? He doesn't, and that's why many people don't see this as a huge loss. It's always nice to land a kid like him but he seems to have peaked early and may not progress as much as Williams can.  I'll eat my words if he explodes wherever he goes and one of our recruits doesn't pan out as much as we hope for but I doubt that will be the case.
