Marquette Warriors Fan Gear
« on: November 18, 2008, 06:49:35 PM »
I remember some time ago somebody posting a web-site of Marquette WARRIOR gear for sale.  Does anybody have web-sites that still sell Warrior gear?  If someone could post web-site(s) that do that would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

The person who runs this site must be an MU alum and possibly a WI. native, as those are probably the least offensive shirts of the bunch. 8-)

I was so pissed .. I've ordered Warrior gear from Zazzle.com a few times..

A few weeks ago, I ordered some custom photo stamps (for xmas stamps) because they were on sale, and ordered in a Warrior t-shirt for my son, as the design was saved in my order history.

A day later, they emailed me and told me the Warrior shirt didn't pass their copyright check, and the whole order was canceled.  Bastards!

So .. no postage, no Warrior stuff.

Boycott Zazzle!

For those in the Milwaukee area, Bay View Threadworks, 2898 S. Delaware Ave. has some Warrior gear in stock. I wore a navy blue Warrior polo shirt to Buzz's BBQ last June that received a number of positive comments.

Didn't pass the copyright check?  They are dummies.  MU has technically abandoned the Warriors trademark.  I looked it up last year and posted on this board about it.

Here's my post from last year.

I did a quick online search to see if "Marquette Warriors" or "Warriors" was trademarked by Marquette (law school finally making itself useful!).  Turns out that MU doesn't have the trademark to Marquette Warriors.  In fact, the trademark was held by someone else and is dead.  This is just a basic search, so it may not be completely up to date, just thought it was interesting.  Seems like you can slap Warriors on anything you want to and not worry about the university coming after you.

And yep, the trademark for Marquette Gold is also dead too.

UPDATE - STILL DEAD

I attached the screen shot.

Funny - I've always wondered why that site had Warriors gear.  Did a little digging (internet stalking?), and the guy that owns the company graduated from UW-Milwaukee.  However, he did graphics art stuff for Dick Strong's company, so besides likely being from Milwaukee, there's another MU connection.

I'm not getting ANY Warriors up on the Cafe Press sites. The first one had St. Jon's Red Men and other older collegiate Indian monikers, and the second one was blank.

My understanding of this is that they could choose to protect it, basically at any time should they so choose, given its history...in other words, they do not need to maintain the registration but they are still the rightful 'owners' of the name. So if someone goes out and tries to register it, or starts making a lot of money selling Marquette Warriors stuff, long and short, MU would win in court.

invert the colors so it's blue logo on a gold shirt; that way it blends in better when trying to get a 'gold out' type of look.

Sorry to say, but we have been contacted by the university to remove the Warriors shirt from our site. As others had found, we thought that the school no longer owned the trademark, but I can see how they hold the Intellectual Property Rights.

Anyway, they asked us nicely to remove it and we have no intention of upsetting our former school, so the page is in the process of being removed right now.

As I said before, we will have some other original Marquette shirts coming on the site shortly in blue and gold. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know and we will see what we can put together. Thanks for all the feedback so far.

How about your avatar?  That would make a good shirt.

Thanks, thats one of my new favorites. Really excited to see Blue play this year, and it looks like he will be picking up a lot of minutes from the get go so long as his defense keeps up.

For you lawyers on here..."intellectual propoerty rights"???? on an expired trademark?  What did MU do, patent the logo?  lol   Sounds like a baseless claim to me but would like to know as I think this has entered into "free use" domain.

Its a slippery slope. Intellectual Property rights pretty much means everything is copyrighted these days. For example, this post right now that I am typing is my intellectual property, so I own the copyright as long as I can prove that I came up with it. If someone printed this post out and tried to sell it I could make them stop.

Now, its my understanding that logos need to be trademarked, and the Warriors logo no longer is. At the same time, me and some friends design and sell t-shirts for things we are interested in and to make a little cash on the side. We have no desire to go to court and we especially don't want to ruffle feathers with a place like MU since we are all obviously fans. If they don't want us to sell the shirts then I respect that. I am not going to question their legal stance.

So for people looking for Warrior's shirts, it looks like they are going to be impossible to get short of someone selling them illegally on the street or something like they did when I was a student.

I received a nice Warriors sweatshirt for X-mas that year  ;D

i have one (wearing it right now) that I bought at the tee shirt printer however many years ago.  I can't remember the name of the store, but it was in Chula Vista (San Diego) CA. The store/printer was on Broadway I believe, but I'd have to look that up.  Am currently back in WI until next winter, but I'll see what I can dredge up from my dim and fast-fading memory.

Yeah - and if anyone can explain how to post them, I will.  I've posted pics on other message boards, where I hit an image button and it takes me to my photos to pick them out.  On this board, hitting the image button just prints img/img in brackets in the message box instead of actually taking me to my pictures to pick it out.

Great - now the message board just changed what I was trying to show the message board prints when I hit the image button.....

Right click on the picture you want to post and choose "copy image address".  Then go back to the Scoop post, click on the picture of Mona Lisa, and paste in between the [img][\img] brackets.
