This team is not about the coach
« on: October 25, 2008, 09:15:05 PM »
Did anyone else do a double take when Buzz said that? (Probably not an exact quote)  I am not sure he meant it as a slam on Crean, but it sure could be taken that way.

I couldn't believe the standing room only crowd.  I never dreamed it would be that crowded. My daughter and I almost didn't get a seat.  Plus she got stuck with a XXL shirt.

On the downside, tonight was kinda boring.  I realized that maybe the showman wasn't all bad.

People started streaming out at halftime of the men's scrimmage.  Is there a big party on campus tonight?

I'm willing to trade karate and ATVs for more than one NCAA win every 5 years.

Actually, quite disappointed.  We saw the last T-Shirt given away  about 10 seconds before we got to the box.   As it was, it would have been XXL for my two daughters.   They shold not have run out of shirts!

Or maybe you should have gotten there sooner?  Not sure how running out of shirts is the Athletic Department's problem...

I got there at 6:30 so I wouldn't have to stand in line and we still got shirts.

I completely got the same vibe from the comments in the original post ENG92. I stood and applauded.

I definitely took that comment as a slam on TC.  What about:  "I have no idea who we're playing this year."

Why was the band playing so loudly while the team was playing?  I thought the event was unorganized and chaotic.  Was there a surprise guest??

The first time I heard Buzz speak. I do think it indicates a change from Crean and I like the attitude. My impression of Midnight Madness was why would you want to bring a recruit to it. It was kind of boring. I did not see Midnight Madness under Crean as something that would impress recruits either. Although, I always felt that was because it was designed to impress 18-22 old and as a result of that it seem stupid to 50+ crowd. Did Crean ever get a commitment out of Midnight madness? I do not remember one. As far as the team, two players impressed me. Wesley Matthews looked significantly stronger to me, which should help his game. Chris Otule far exceeded my expectations. I expect Burke to start the whole year, but my prediction is that Otule averages more minutes, more points and more rebounds than Burke.
McMorow did not play, but was walking with no problem. definitely taller than Otule and appeared to be very agile.

Erik Williams committed during Midnight Madness last year.

Was Roseboro in the house?

My take from the vid was that the electricity was not at the same level. Buzz is not Crean the salesman. That may hurt him as top-flight coaches can coach and sell their teams to any audience.

But this audience was the one that mattered. IMO, he hit a single which was a safe choice, but not what I had hoped for. He appeared to be very nervous and seemed to stay to one side of the court. His talk of the future was brief...game play non-existent...the focus on the team was NOT a smack on Crean IMO but a way to take the focus off him.

Jficke, I'd also like to know who the planned guest was.

On a side note, I was impressed by Burke's abilities as MC of the dunk fest.

There was rumor it was Doc Rivers as the surprise guest - but he had to cancel.  Don't know if that is true tho.

Thanks for posting what the troll said.   Saves me from having to actually take him off of 'ignore'.
