Antlers apply full-court press
COLUMBIA | The Antlers — that venerable student group that loves to get under the skin of Missouri basketball opponents — was playing nice Saturday afternoon.

Oh, they stood and screamed incessantly inside Mizzou Arena. But they were yelling for, not at, Class of 2009 national recruit Michael Snaer.

"Michael Snaer! M-I-Z! Sign MU!" The Antlers called. Snaer looked up, and grinned.

Which MU coach Mike Anderson would have enjoyed. But he did not attend the open gym workout of his current players, oral commitment Mike Dixon from Lee's Summit West and Snaer — that would be against NCAA rules.

Snaer — a 6-4 shooting guard from Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde High School — is rated the No. 11 overall player in the nation for '09 by Rivals.com. He's the No. 5-ranked shooting guard.

He has offers from Missouri, Marquette, Florida State, Cal, Arizona, USC, UCLA, UNLV and Washington, as well as interest from reigning national champ Kansas.

Matt Lawrence, senior guard for Mizzou, marveled at the scene late Saturday afternoon at Mizzou Arena.

"We've never had a crowd like this before a football game," Lawrence said.

Sounds like the fans were able to watch him workout with the team.  The student body is going to have to come out and show some support for him when he visits on the 19th-21st.

We better see some students with "Snaer to Marquette" t-shirts or signs when he comes to campus. It would be great for him to see really how good Marquette fans are...

I've been reading all summer that people are pleased we've moved on from all the gimmicks associated with our old coach whether it be team prep, game entertainment, recruit enticement, etc. Perhaps people aren't as pleased?

Buzz seems to do just fine without all the foo-foo confetti hanging around. After all, he did nail down the #1 JUCO player in the nation, a top five prospect from talent-rich Texas, one of the five best PGs available in the class, and snared a kid out of Madison.

Isn't Snaer pretty much considered a one-and-done guy?

He is ranked miostly in the 20's to 30's.  Hard to see him as one and done?

A Freshman 2G that lights up the BEast could easily be one and done.  Hope he comes and is a lottery after one year.  Would be great for recruiting and maintain our rep as guard friendly

Snaer, Dixon draw a crowd

Perhaps as many as 3,000 people walked into Mizzou Arena this afternoon to get a glimpse of recruits Michael Snaer and Michael Dixon, who paid an official visit to Columbia and participating in an open gym with current members of the Missouri basketball team. The spectators held signs that read "Sign MU" or "Snaer+Dixon+MU=#1." They cheered every dunk, steal and jump shot and chanted hopefully pleas that the two prep guards might choose to play for the Tigers beginning in 2009.

We are going to have to top this....

We should have signs that say something like

"Snaer + The REAL MU"
