Wow!  It's hard to say "no" when you hear a sales pitch like that!

Nike sucks.

haven't owned a Nike shoe since I was in grade school.  Read an article on the sweatshop labor that Nike practices (I understand many other shoe companies do to, but at the time I had no clue) and never bought a pair of Nike shoes again.  Everyday shoes - Puma   For basketball - Adidas  For a cheap pair of cleats for bar-league softball and other random things(intramurals) - Adidas   My Rugby Boots - Mizuno (although if I were to buy another pair it would be Gilbert, the god of all things Rugby)

pure genius stuff by Bill Simmons, remember to read day 2

Nike has come a long, long way in regards to improving the conditions in which their employees work. Which is not to say they are perfect by any standard, but on average they are a better than a lot of companies, including some you mention above.

To my knowledge the only American-made shoes are some New Balance.

Read Just Do It which is the story of the rise to prominence of the Nike empire.
Rev. Jesse Jackson confronted Phil Knight on the working conditions at Nike. Phil noted that Jackson was wearing a pair of Cole-Haan shoes. Jackson acknowledged the compliment and said that all he evers wears. At that point Knight asked him if he     knew Nike owned Cole-Haan?

Just Do It is 15 years old. A lot has changed since then.

Still a great story about the shakedowns by JJ.
