Whenever this guy dunked it ended up on Sportscenter.

I will give Crean one thing.  He did say that Trend had the most amazing collegiate dunk he had ever seen in Juco and he certainly didn't disappoint when he got to Marquette.

Blackhat

sounds like the crowd wasn't too excited about the decision.

trend is a pretty athletic guy but I was never really that impressed with his dunks.  given that nobody else on the team could really dunk that well besides Dominic he didn't have much competition.  pretty much the only thing he did was dunk and foul.  congrats on the gold regardless.

Unless most of those guys are around 7 feet tall, that rim is much lower than 10". I could have been in that dunk contest, and I'm my 30's and haven't dunked in years.

yeah.  i find guys the size of dominic dunking to be much more impressive.

Too bad there's more to the game than dunking. What ever happened to the mid-range jump shot? Maybe they should have a mid-range jump shot contest.

TallTitan34

Not that Trend's dunks weren't impressive as always but I think I would have picked the guy in the light blue shirt.

I think you call that a pick-up game with all white guys.

The mid-range jump shot has gone the way of short-shorts.  I've been firmly convinced that players should almost never take them.  Feel free to lament the death of the mid-range jump shot, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a matter of poor shot selection (especially early in the shot clock)

Read the article.  Learn it.  Live it.  Love it.  Yell at the TV when McNeal shoots a 16-footer.

I heard the BOOs too at the end of the Finals competition.

Trend winning it was kind of like Dwight Howard winning the Dunk Comp: big guys are SUPPOSED to be able to dunk.

The cat in the light blue should have won it.

Sorry, Trend.

I'll take the 16 footers that McNeal fights for over the Dominic James 30' at the end of shot clocks.  Honestly, there is nothing more frustrating watching Marquette basketball then a Dominic James thrown up 3.

It's not that simple. When playing and watching, I'd rather have an open shot from 10 feet than a contested 20 footer, and I'd rather have an open three pointer than a contested 10 footer. It would be difficult to measure and graph exactly how open a player is when attempting the shots that this study graphs, but that type of variable is kind of important when talking about whether a shot is a good shot or not.
Also, its just a fact that there are more open looks from the perimeter due to spacing issues, especially as players get bigger= less spacing in the 10-15 feet range as opposed to a three. Something to remember when talking about shooting percentages.
Something else important to consider is the game situation. If I'm the Marquette coach, and we haven't scored the last three trips down the floor (all open 3's) and we take another three, said player is getting pulled.
