Rose injured. You gotta hear how.
K.C. Johnson

Derrick Rose wore a large gauze bandage on his left forearm and a
sheepish smile on his face.

Rose missed Monday's practice after he needed 10 stitches to close a
gash suffered when he said he rolled onto a knife while eating an apple
in bed.

"It was a silly incident," Rose said. "I was cutting up some food and I
laid on a knife getting lazy in bed. I went to go get a bottle of
water, came back, forgot the knife was there, then sat down and sliced
my arm.

"I panicked when it first happened and called my trainer. It was
painful but I should be alright."

Athletic trainer Fred Tedeschi drove Rose to Highland Park Hospital
shortly after 8 a.m., where doctors closed the wound.

"It was a large wound, but they healed it up," Rose said. "I'm good. I
could've practiced today, but they told me to wait until tomorrow. Most
likely, I'm going to play."

Rose said he would have the stitches in his arm for 10-14 days.

"It's just an unfortunate thing, but he'll be fine," coach Vinny Del
Negro said. "He could've practiced today but more precautionary to let
him relax a little after that incident and get some rest. Thank
goodness it's not serious. It could've been a lot worse."

Wow.  This is actually worse than former Brewers pitcher Matt Wise cutting his finger on the salad tongs from the post-game spread and missing time.

TallTitan34

Ironically, Rose is known for having a really bad diet consisting of pretty much all candy.

He eats healthy for once in his life and things go crazy!

My favorites were Josh Beimel from the Dodgers, breaking a cocktail glass in his hand and missing a playoff game.

He was eating Gummy Worms by the bulk everyday, so I'm fine with this learning experience.

Apples are dangerous, dangerous fruit -- what genius said that they keep doctors away???
Not to mention they are the scapegoat for the curse of original sin to all humankind . . . .

On the other hand [no pun intended], I am way jealous of the HPH doc; wish I could have sutured him up!

Didn't some NFL player break his arm reaching for a phone a few years back?

Reminds me of Cordell Henry. He used to go into Open Pantry and buy Airheads literally by the boxload. He also spend a LOT of time at Louie D's.

That being said, my favorite non-sports related injury to an athlete had to be when Brian Leetch, star defenseman for the Rangers ICE HOCKEY team drunkenly slipped on a patch of ice while getting out of a cab, and missed the rest of the season.

And who knows what actually happened with the Clint Barmes story.  From what he said, carrying a heavy package of deer meat caused him to fall and break his collarbone.  He was having a great season that year, and didn't get good again until this year.

my favorite is john smoltz, he burned his chest while ironing a shirt, which he was reportedly wearing at the time

insert "that's when he told his wife she better do the ironing now" comment here......   ;)

But seriously, please don't use this excuse.  It's lame.
