According to Scout Marquette has offered Johnnie Lacy a scholarship.  Can anyone elaborate or has anyone heard anything?  I'd really like to know if there is any truth to this.

It is a fact, MU offered Lacy awhile ago, when Crean was still the coach.  Buzz still has the offer on the table.

any idea if this is a conditional offer?... ie if his academics are in good standing at the end of the school year he can accept a scholarship.

What are the rules regarding offers?

I believe that for a player to have an official visit he must have an offer.
I believe a school is limited to how many official visits it can have.
I am not sure if there is a limit on how many offers a school can make.
An offer does not mean an offical visit, but an official visit means there has to be an offer.
I do not think there is such a thing as a conditional offer. A recruit has to be accepted by the university, but outside of that an offer is an offer.
I think if you offer a player and he accepts you have to take him unless the university does not admit him. That is why you do not want to many offers out there. You do not want an offer out on player B when you really want player A.
You can tell player B you will offer him, if player A goes else where.
That is why you see so many players that MU has an interest in with no offers.
Does anybody have a better understanding of the rules regarding offers?

This is what I'm talking about for a conditional offer.

But, I guess that it's not technically an offer, but rather a verbal agreement.

My guess is that is what MU has done with Lacy... but if he is listed as having an offer... then I don't really know.

Anybody have more insight?

Not true.  You can take an official without an offer, though most players don't do that.  But there is no requirement that you have an offer to take one.

QuoteI believe a school is limited to how many official visits it can have.

Nope.  The school can host however many it wants.  The players are limited on how many official visits they can make.  The current number is 5.

There is no limit.

Nope.  If a player wants to waste one of his 5 official visits on a school that has not offered him, he is free to do so.

Not really.  Nothing is binding until the LOI is signed.  You can choose to pull the offer at any time even if the player has committed, but coaches generally do not do that because they fear it will be exploited later in the recruiting process.

I heard that one a little differently:

She offered her honor.
He honored her offer,
and
He was on her and off her all night.  :D

All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

Lacy told this site that MU is his leader as of last week.

"Top 100 rising-senior Johnnie Lacy (5'9 PG Wisconsin Elite) says that Marquette leads for his services, but also mentioned Tennessee, Texas and Minnesota."

5ft 9in.  He keeps on shrinking.

MUONTOP

It seems that a lot of people have been hard on lacy because of his score-first mentality and his shooting and feel that this will take away scoring opportunities for others.  I disagree, I would much rather have a PG that the defense has to respect as a scoring threat and play tight than one who always looks to pass. IMO Lacy will be able to learn to drive and dish whereas I believe its much harder to teach a dependable stroke and the ability to get to the basket which will lead to the free throw line.  From what I've seen Lacy looks like a less athletic DJ with a better stroke and better ability to get to the rim.

MUonTop,
Based on what I have read about all of the PGs on the Wiki page I would rate Lacy at the bottom of who I want.  Here are my reasons
1) He is the smallest on could get abused on the defensive end in the BE.
2) It appears as if he has played more 2 than 1.
3) Academic issues - we really need stability at this position.

I haven't seen any of them play but feel we will be fine/better off if we get one of the others.

you wouldnt feel fine with the highest ranked of all of them? i know rankings arent the end all but we arent to the point where we can pass up on top 100 recruits
