Well I have been pondering what I think Marquette needs for the '09 class and I have come to the conclusion that the Warriors must recruit a guy who can shoot lights out from three. With Erik Williams and Lazar Hayward working the post, we need the ability to stretch the defense out by making threes otherwise we'll see the same zone defense that has haunted Marquette fans for the last three years.

I think that as Marquette fans we were spoiled five years ago. Travis Diener and Steve Novak were both exceptional three point shooters. I think that a legitmate three point shooter (not Dan Fitz) was the big thing holding this team back last year. If i was Buzz I would have Jimmy Butler on the three point line all practice, all summer to be the sniper of the bench BUT i digress.

It has been along time since we have had that guy who can make the big three in the clutch. I remember back in the days of Diener were if we won the opening tip you could almost be for certain that Diener would take the first three of the game and Marquette would jump to an early lead. Now we start off slow and sluggish and often let bad teams hang around and good teams get in front early.

Outside of Hayward last year I think its safe to say almost every shot from beyond the arc had me closing my eyes and praying. That cannot happen on a guard orientated team.

In regards to the '09 class losing Maurice Cheeks hurts: he was the guy who shoots lights out from three at the SG and would stretch the defense to where it needed to be. Seeing where we are right now if Buzz needs to recruit any new people it needs to be a three point shooting SG. Right now that guy may be Donte Hill but outside of that Scout and Rival have very small lists when it comes to SGs being recruited by Marquette. Get out their Buzz and get us a three point specialist!

We definite;y need a 3 point shooter.  But first we need a PG.  A fast, slashing, dishing point guard.  Who can hit 3s :)

I hope we can do better in the post than Hayward.  If we're going to start posting up players that should be playing the 3 we might as well run Bo's motion  :'( (Why isn't there a puking face)  No doubt he's been a stud underneath, especially for his size, but we're going to struggle to recruit players of his size/skill if we have to throw them in the post.  Hopefully this problem has been fixed with the departure of TC.

With the deeper line this year I would agree that a couple shooters would really open up the lane.  It will be interesting to see how the new line changes the game.
