Count me in as one that is fine with this.  If Buzz is the recruiter everyone says, then he can get someone is a better player then this.

Morrow committed to East Carolina today.

My guess is that we really didn't go after him that hard.

NYWarrior

Looks like Buzz has the patience to wait for the right recruits.......and since Morrow landed up at ECU -- the ability to better assess talent.

Glad to see he waited.

THEGYMBAR

Lets lose a recruit to UCLA or NC for once....and no Taylor does not count ;D

Your guess is correct.  That's what this is all about-- evaluate and move on when it isn't the right guy.  I was all about Morrow if Buzz determined him a good fit, but Buzz did not.  Next?

jficke13

i'm on board here. let's hope buzz goes with a new big recruiting strategy that doesn't involve 2-3 star scabs from juco

ATWizJr

Good decision.  Looks like we're banking and not in panic mode.  Bravo!

I wouldn't assume we're banking just yet.    ;)  There's still some time...

Varez Ward would be a good signing at this point with PG a major worry for 09. Otherwise bank it.

Problem was there weren't any big man better out there this spring. That's a position everyone locks down early because there are so few available. He was the highest rated PF or C uncommitted by ESPN and ranked a solid #115 overall. If there wasn't a coaching change he would still be SEC bound and not on the board either.

Don't think you can read anything into his talent because he committing to ECU, other than a good recruiting job by our new coach who has a history of success. Morrow had already signed with S. Carolina in the fall when they were on him as a top targets, needed size, and only had one scholarship to give. He picked them over Cincy, Providence, Penn State, UAB, Auburn etc.  Plus Dave Odom was a good coach and had an eye for NBA caliber big men like Tim Duncan, Darrius Songila, Rodney Rodgers Maktar Nydiae etc that were some what under the radar.

I also recall your last coach taking one of our decomits after our coaching change that started about half the games for you this year. Having followed both's recruitment, this guy sounds much better than Burke. Burke was a project even when we got him. He only even averaged about 8 point in high school.

Easy to say now when he signed on our visit and never made it to yours.

So is the new line for anyone Buzz doesn't get, "We really didn't want him anyway"?

ATWizJr

not necessarily, but in this case, I think buzz could have had him if he wanted him.  He seems to be an Otule duplicate so why not look for an upgrade or fill another position?

Buzz didn't feel he was good for the continuity of the program and that's why he's here!

Plus he doesn't fit into Buzz's style of basketball, which is winning.

ECUPirate - don't think people are knocking him *just* because he's committed to ECU.  If you look at our thread last week, people had much the same opinion - not positive about whether he's a good choice for MU, but trusting in Buzz to evaluate.  It may be pompous to say we could have had him if we wanted him (we'll never know), but I don't think many are heartbroken that we didn't get the guy.

Regardless, congrats on what looks to be a decent pickup.
