Sorry if this is rehashing old posts, but I have not been able to stay on top of this train wreck for the past 7 days:

1) Did any of the buyout details ever get confirmed?

2) I assume most of Crean's salary was paid by boosters, is that correct or does the Athletic Department have an lot more cash sitting around?

3) Did we cash Tom Crean's check for the new soccer stadium, or did he pull that too when he skipped town?

1) Complicated, from what I heard from someone close to the program is Crean's buyout was minimal but only if he went through the right channels.  He obviously wasn't given permission to contact IU and vice versa, so its very possible a lawsuit could come about.

2) I think it was Half and Half.  But recruiting and jet use is mostly provided by boosters.

3) No idea.

I think Crean's buyout was $650,000 with IU paying $525,000 of it.

His salary looks to be part of the written memorandum of agreement so I think that means it comes from IU.

If they were smart, they rushed his check over the next day.

I am talking about Marquette, I could care less about Tom Crean now.  I was just wondering if the MU Athletic department has a few hundred thousand dollars laying around this year that was earmarked for TC that could be put to good use in marketing or another fashion.

Thats the buyout in the contract, but Crean violated the contract by not going through the proper channels.  I don't think its black and white, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I would doubt very much if it is settled in a contentious, public manner.  This only sullies the reputation of the school and makes it harder to hire good people in the future.  My guess is that an amicable, quiet settlement will be agreed to.

This is what I've heard as well.

I pulled this from the press release on Crean's Soccer Stadium donation:

QuoteJune 28, 2007

MILWAUKEE - Marquette University's plan to build a new soccer stadium received a significant boost today from head basketball coach Tom Crean and his wife, Joani. Motivated by their admiration for the University and respect for the commitment and vision of the soccer program's head coaches, Louis Bennett and Markus Roeders, the Crean family has committed $100,000 to the campaign.

All Tom Crean did was agree to commit $100,000 to the stadium, I doubt we ever got/get that money.
