Hall of Famer or not, I'm frustrated with this guy.  He's been in the business for 35 years, yet he can't advice his players to commit to anything but a head coach when they choose their school?  And he also advices his players to sign the letter of intent, which is not necessary and attack the school every day for doing what is well within their rights?  And "holding a kid for this long when there's such uncertainty"?  It's been FIVE days, and things are moving fairly quickly if you ask me.  If it's June 1 and we don't have a coach or Taylor still wants out in mid-July and we don't release him, maybe Hurley would have a point.  This guy sounds less like a coach or a "parent figure" to me and more like Drew Rosenhaus.

So why exactly is Buzz Williams the leading candidate?

Simple. Because he's there, knows the current players and recruited the incoming class. And the people MU targeted initially don't want the job.

Most of the upper classmen are staying regardless if Buzz Williams is the coach or not.  Mbakwe is gone anyways.   As far as the incoming recruiting clas:   Fulce comes to Marquette regardless.  Otule is 50/50 -- probably 100% if Williams is the coach.  Nick Williams wasn't recruited by Buzz Williams and we haven't heard much from him, but it sounds like he wants out either way and is just waiting to see who the new coach is before making it final.  The name Buzz Williams, won't get Nick Williams to stay.   And now it sounds like Taylor only wanted to play for Crean and the hiring of Buzz won't convince him to stay either.    So it sounds like the main recruit that Buzz Williams is helping us keep is Chris Otule a 2 star center.  No thanks.  I get the fact that Miller or Bennett don't want the job but Buzz Williams should not be the #3 choice.  Lowery should be the guy.
