I'm staying in Pullman.

No surprise

EDIT:  He did say this on Sunday before MU opened up, but I'd still be very surprised

I believe it highly unlikey either Bennett or Miller come to MU. Benett for sure wil stay as he turned down IU. Miler, tougher call but he has a heck of a class coming in. Still, i think he uses us to get a better deal at X.

Crean really hammered us this year because it is likely we lose all 4 recruits. To bad this was not a 1 or 2 recruit season.

Maybe if we are stuck with a mid level guy, we just give Buzz the gig, save the incomingclass and see how he does. If not, wow will we be depleted in 2009.

Why does Bennett turning down IU automatically disqualify him from coming to MU?

The IU job is going to be TERRIBLE for the next two years. Sure, they say, "oh expectations will be low", but this is Indiana (as Crean would say). If Tommy ain't winning by the end of year two, the natives will get restless. For the amount of cash he's collecting, he will have zero room for slack. If homestate kids (D. James, Oden, Zeller just to name a few) keep leaving the state, you can guarantee the locals will be furious with Crean.

From Seth Davis' account, Bennett wanted nothing to do with this "fishbowl" type environment. As much as having a top college basketball job is great, you better have real thick skin too.

I say he's gone in one when they figure out he can't crack a triangle and two defense.

It does not disquality him at all. It speaks to his frame of mind. I believe Tony stays in Pullman for the time being. MU will not pull him ourt of the Pac 10.

The only way somebody's throwing a triangle and 2 at IU next year is if they only have 2 guys on the roster.

The good news is that Marquette didn't force his sister out the door. It doesn't disqualify him.

If you read carefully, he told his recruits "I'm not going to Indiana".  Those coaches always leave some wiggle room when they talk.  The one recruit even said something like, "I guess that means he's staying".

It sounded to me like Bennett was leaving the door open to the next opportunity.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

According to Andy Katz, "Tony told him he wasn't going to pursue MU"

Trying to read public or leaked pronouncements of coaches as an indicator of their later behavior isn't always the best way to go.

That and it's Andy Katz

Everyone has a price - that's just the bottom line. If someone gave Bennett $30M a year, he might think about it.  No one is anywhere for good.  Except maybe Coach K and Roy Williams.  Everyone else is up for grabs.  I don't think they even care about wiggle room.  On the radio today, Crean says he wanted a long term contract with Indiana because he was leaving one at Marquette, and he wanted his recruits to know he'd be there.  LOL - this while his 2008 "recruits" are all bailing on us becasue he's not here.

So - there is a price (not jsut money, but a price).

In the world of soccer, they call this a "come and get me" plea.

Get on the charter, eat 5 cookies, and knock one out in Pullman. This is, of course, after they've stalked Anthony Grant in San Antonio all weekend.
