Here's my predicament.  I'm in a "suicide" pool.  You pick one team for each day of the tournament that you know is going to win.  If your team loses, you're done.  You pick as the matchups develop, ie, I didn't pick second round games until those matchups were set.  The catch is that you can't pick the same team twice, so the ideal situation is to find a team with a favorable matchup in the current round but who you don't think will advance after that.  For example, I picked 'Nova yesterday and Butler on Friday.  We started out with over 900 entries and are down to just over 200.

Here are the games for Thursday.  Remember, I need to pick a winner or I'm out and I can't use the team again.  To me, I'm saving UCLA and UNC so I need to pick a winner from X-WVU & UT-UL.   I have WVU right now, but I'm not confident in that pick.  Thoughts?

3. Xavier vs. 7. West Virginia 4:10 PM
1. North Carolina vs. 4. Washington St 4:27 PM
3. Louisville vs. 2. Tennessee 6:57 PM
1. UCLA vs. 12. Western Ky 7:40 PM
Of course, this is purely for entertainment and bragging rights purposes.

For me, it's between Xavier and North Carolina.  I think Xavier has a legit shot at making a run, but I'd be nervous about picking them the rest of the way following the WVU matchup.  I do think they take out WVU.

I'd go Xavier or Louisville.  I think they both win their upcoming game and then lose the next one.

I will say this, sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.  I know you want to save them, but you may want to go safe and take UNC or UCLA.  UCLA, particularly, is no guarantee after Thursday anyway, so I'm not sure saving them makes sense.  But I can't imagine they'd lose to Western Kentucky.

Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

I'll be of very little use to you because I have no idea.  (I would take UNC because I think Louisville beats them Saturday.)

I'm writing to ask what happens in your pool if you get to the later rounds and you haven't lost but you've already picked all the teams that are playing that day?

It's not even my pool, but I'll tell you what happens - you don't score anymore points.  I have been in suicide pools for NFL.  They're great.  You pick one team each week to win and it goes all season.  You get one wrong and you're out.  Last man standing wins.

TJ

I've been in them for NFL and other sports - it's easy when all the teams keep playing every week.  I want to know what happens when it's the Final Four and X people are still standing, but you've already used all 4 of the teams that made it with one of your previous 8 picks.  Do you lose automatically?  What if there's only 2 of you and the other guy has only 1 team left and that team loses?  Tie?  He wins because at least he made a pick in that round?

Husker4MU

I'm not sure what happens in that case TJ.  It's one big logic problem.  I'm thinking I'll switch to U of L with Lofton's injury and their length, athleticism and defensive prowess.  But...I'm still not comfortable.
