I don't see him going very high in the draft this season, but I have heard that his family situation is very difficult right now and the money is really in need.  I hope the kid comes back, but I can see why he would leave.  What are people thinking, does he stay or go?

Do a search on this topic and transform yourself to about 2 months ago. Did you get this info from your buddy over at Marquette Watch?

I am not really sure what you are talking about.  Sorry I work for a living and don't have time to keep up on all these boards.  I just asked a simple question, sorry you can't answer it like a mature adult.

Detfan, you have to excuse some of the Registered Users as their patience runs thin on many issues. They somehow find it difficult to believe that not everyone reads through all the archives to make sure their question hasnt been asked yet.

My sources tell me DJ will not stick around for another season and he will be going over to play pro ball in Guam.

Thanks Bilas, it really is my fault.  Sometimes I allow my job, family, and life to get in the way of this site.  I really need to get my priorities right.

Where is it written that a person's mind can't change in three months? God, someone asks a perfectly innocuous question and he gets ripped. Sorry, detfan. It is a 99 percent certainty DJ won't return.

Detfan23

I wish the kid would stick around, but I have to respect his decision.  Hopefully he will stay.

Why did I even bother reading this garbage? Hasn't this been discussed a million times? Who started this post? It is times like this that really make me wish I had a job and a family.

PPS. I think James is as good as gone. He can make $$ next year WITH a college degree to boot. I further think that any NBA exec who doesn't take a good long look at him either in round 2 or in free agency is crazy. The kid has played extremely well this year, when not injured.
PPPS. The previous point is moot, because after our final four run, DJ will be a unaminous 1st round selection.

Is it family medical reasons?  Its the only thing I can think of that would make sense...why would going to europe vs. staying and possibly playing himself into the NBA's first round be a smart move?  Europe ball isn't going anywhere, obviously I'm not in his situation but seems foolish to leave early.  I believe the first round gaurantees three years in the league.

With James, Marquette has a great shot to go deep in the tourney in 2009.

Europe isn't anywhere?  The specualtion is someone of DJ's caliber can make 500k - 1m a year in the top leagues in Europe.  I know secondhand of an American who played in Europe for  10 years and averaged aout 750k a year, not NBA money but not bad if you can put a lot in the bank.  The person I know was not DJ's caliber in basketball skills so that is why some think he can make very good living in Europe if the NBA doesn't work out.

The specualtion is DJ's family has a  lot of money needs and hundred's of thousands would be a great help.

I am very curious to see if Ooze plays in the top European leagues since he is from Senegal and would not count against the limit of 2 Americans per team.

Does he really have a degree in May or is he just ahead of pace for a typical 3rd year student?  Big difference.

How many All-Conf players leave eligibility on the table when they know FOR CERTAIN that they won't be drafted by the NBA?

This is the most flumoxing (sp) situation ever.  Did this money issue come out of nowhere?  Can no one else in his family get a job anywhere?  It's not like DJ's family is paying tuition for him.  He is essetially self-relient.  Many of us took out HUGE loans to be at MU.  Many of our parents took out second mortgages and got part time jobs to help us thru MU.

I don't care about MU's gain, I just care about his future.  A all conf player leaving eligibility on the table is so unusual...I hope this decision is thoroughly thought through and I hope Coach Crean is intimately involved.  Coming back next year with essentially the same team + 1 year experience + Mbakwe means a deep run and the NBA Draft has been known to reward winners.

DJ can graduate in May if he chooses to.

Yeah, this thread actually has me wondering if I can parlay my skillz into an NBA gig after graduation to pay down my 1-2 times average U.S. annual income debt from student loans after I leave in May.

Good.  Then we can all relax.  He's stayin'.

Good.

Marquette has a large alumni base in Guam so it'll be like being back in Marquette, only warmer during winter.
