Is he in the portal? Muggsy has been screaming for bangers. This guy fits the bill.

Just tuned in to the NIT Championship. Not like it matters, but actually an entertaining game.

Auburn blew a 21-point lead and was down 3 to Tulsa with seven seconds left. Tulsa shot themselves in the foot and turned the ball over during the inbound, allowing Auburn to make a game-tying three.

Auburn's up 3 with about a minute left in OT.

ESPN has Michigan as way too early favorite in Top 25. UConn and St. John in top 11. MU Nowhere to be found. The gap is huge. Giddyup Shaka. That is why you get the big bucks.

hmm...perhaps some of the players are getting bigger bucks.

Two years ago, Michigan went 8-24.

And completely overhauled the roster by hitting the portal hard.

and rebuilt their roster using the Portal. Call the entire team "mercenaries" if you want (especially if you're in East Lansing, MI), but UM took advantage of the new rules and used them to their advantage, building a roster that meshed together. As much as I dislike UM, they were the best team.

That said, UConn had the right game plan to beat them; they just didn't execute on the offensive end.

A lot of narratives will be written about this game, like when Kentucky won in 2012.

Really, there's one common thread, the teams with the best players usually win

Had UConn pulled it off, the narrative around Yaxel playing would've haunted Dusty May for a long time.

But they won, so I'm sure someone will try to write his poor performance as some motivational Willis Reed moment.

You never know when you are going to have a top team team in early April, only to have the second and third best players decide they don't like the best player, take their ball and leave.

Yup, and yup.

I honestly was not trying to make a "Just watch Marquette do what Michigan did!" statement. I read that fact this morning, and it blew my mind, so I posted it. No ulterior motive.

May is neither the first nor only coach to have rebuilt almost totally by the transfer portal, but he did it better than anybody else - obviously. As an outside observer, I find the whole thing fascinating.

Really good article in The Athletic about Dusty May's rise and his philosophy.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7177801/2026/04/07/dusty-may-michigan-national-championship-career/?

As one who coached at the high school and middle school level (and who definitely was not a "screamer"), this really resonated with me:

At the Final Four, May trusted Cadeau to throw passes off the backboard to get around Arizona's behemoth center Motiejus Krivas. And when his number was called in crunch time on Monday night, Cadeau got a little too brave, tossing an underhanded alley oop from the 3-point line over the head of Mara. Instead of chastising his point guard, May calmly pointed to where he thought the ball should have gone, to Nimari Burnett at the top of the key.

"When we turn the ball over or miss a shot, we never look over to the sideline and see one of the coaches throwing a fit," Cadeau said. "They're just all calm because they understand that we understand the mistakes that we made. There's really no reason to react crazily."

"We're fortunate because we are learning that you don't have to be a d— to be successful," assistant coach Mike Boynton Jr. said, "You don't have to demean your players. You can find joy in the work, and then it makes the joy and the success of that work much more impactful."
