Exactly right.  We don't have many competent defenders after our initial pressure.  Especially among our bigs.

Marquette just wrapped up one of the most successful 3 year stretches in program history

...what was successful about last season...making the tournament?...but I get the point you're making. Problem is, we've seen what this team is. Maybe some improvement as the year goes along, but unlikely ncaa tourney caliber. End of last season and so far in this early season, it feels like a significant backslide.

Felt Marquette was getting fouled on their shots with no calls. Game seemed to change when the Maryland player got injured unfortunately and referee Paul missed some crucial calls. Got to bounce back Marquette.

The refs were fine. Good lord. We missed multiple wide open lay-ups and were awful at our defensive rotations.

This would be a loss that probably can't be overcome in terms of at large chances if Pharrell Payne misses time like it appears he may. Maryland will not be good at all.

More important than this being a potential bad loss is just how we are playing. The defense is sad. No urgency to win.

I don't disagree. Extremely disappointing and disheartening performance.

They stepped up in moments for sure, but weren't consistent and struggled down the stretch.  ZL isn't used to taking 19 shots.  He has to flip his mindset and be a scorer and make plays for others.

Agree most everything Maryland shot that was not a 3, was at the rim. Maryland was 21/33 from 2. Would like to see Marquette force more mid range from other teams

I'm one not afraid to criticize refs. They were fine in this game. Some missed calls of course, but felt it was very even both ways.

We lost this because we couldn't put the ball in the hoop when we were given golden opportunities. They took advantage of theirs.

They can't because they don't have a true 5. We needed a center from the portal that plays offense and defense, we didn't get one.

Pearson is supposed to be that next year, but he will be a Freshman and we may run into the same issues especially with Ben gone.
