Gottlieb is petitioning the NCAA for a waiver to play in the TBT...

I would say it's clever and outside the box thinking except they will be absolutely destroyed. A bunch of adult men, most of who have been playing pro ball for 5+ years, against a low major team? Bloodbath

Hope the NCAA tells UWGB to STFU.

Multitude of reasons to deny (e.g., rules)... for example, espn's story doesn't mention that a requirement is that teams can't play American teams, period. No matter where they play (US armed forces is the exception).

17.32.1.7 Opponents. The team shall not compete during the tour against other American teams (colleges or other U.S. teams) other than teams composed of U.S. armed forces personnel stationed at U.S. military bases in foreign countries.

If UWGB really can't afford it, just steal some credit card numbers and you're all set aina.

I'm sure the NCAA will never allow it but it's a really clever idea.  In an era of NIL, why not find more opportunities?  Why not a regional summer tournament of some sort?  UWGB, UWM, MU, Bucky, Minnesota... it would help players get more exposure and more revenue for the schools.  Much better than watching a constant stream of non-sports on ESPN in the summer!

I really don't think it's that clever. They're gonna get crushed.

No one wants to see UWGB in TBT.  We're talking two completely different levels of hoops.

Agreed, they'd get crushed. But the idea of creating potentially more competitive and organized summer leagues/tournaments featuring college athletes with the opportunity for prize money, is a possibly good one.

I don't think it would necessarily generate enough revenue though, for a very simple reason (which is one of the reasons I'm not a huge fan of NIL), no one is paying sizable money outside of the season to see college basketball players play. They watch them because of the name of the team on their jersey.

no. the bigger issue is teams getting to practice and play while others cannot
