Is there any credible information out there that ranks big east terms by estimated NIL spending?  I've "heard" that UConn, Creighton and SJU are all around $5 million this year and we are below that.  Anyone have real insight on this?

How can fans calibrate expectations if we have no idea how our salary cap compares to the competition?  I would say generally speaking, fans will be disappointed if we don't make sweet 16.  Do we have a Top 20 NIL budget across the country?  We spend 365 days a year talking on this board about a million different aspects of the program, but the number 1 thing correlated to our success (NIL) we have no clue on.  Interesting

It's important, but it's not "the #1 thing correlated to our success."  We have plenty to be competitive.

Agreed. We certainly have to be in the ballpark. This is a real job with paid pro ball not a certainty for most.

A smart kid and their family will see the culture, coach, situation and make sure the NIL is good enough.

But the money is real and it's part of the landscape. I would also like to know where we stand but just knowing we're in the ballpark ok, methinks.

Wow. So the truth of the matta is that this board don't know chit?

You just figured that out?

We've been able to keep our existing players.

For this reason I assume we are doing fine.

I'm going to guess the "around" numbers you've "heard" are inaccurate. I'm also going to guess any numbers someone gives you about our NIL are also inaccurate.

All you really need to know (and honestly, the most realistic information you're going to get) is that in 2022-23, Tyler Kolek was BEPOY and an All-American. Oso and Kam were 2nd team All-Big East. They all came back for 2023-24, which means our NIL fund had enough to pay them competitively.

Coming into this year, most everyone had Kam as an All-American and top-10 player in the sport. Stevie, Chase, and Jop all could have done well in the transfer market. They all came back.

Our guys aren't just returning because they like Shaka and are happy in Milwaukee. They are being compensated adequately for what they have done. I don't know exact figures. I know some of the numbers out there are wildly inflated, which is why I'm guessing those "around $5M" numbers are probably way off. I know some of the numbers that have been rumored for Marquette guys are also inflated. But I also know that we are doing well enough to retain our talent, and I know that because they are still here and (thus far) not testing the portal.

The seniors are making enough to organize cash gifts for the walk-ons and managers at Christmas.   Good enough for me.

I have no idea what the household incomes are for many of our player's families, but I am sure for Ben Gold's parents to fly from NZ to Milwaukee to be with him over the holidays was not cheap. I have heard that the "moms" of some players travel to their road games, again not cheap. I would not be surprised that some NIL money is being used to help out in these situations though I have no knowledge that is the case.

It wasn't that long ago that those kinds of arrangements would result in NCAA penalties and glad that is no longer the case.

From The Athletic:

Steph Curry, Davidson basketball assistant GM: I was already all in on this now being college sports' GM era. Curry's new role with Davidson is notable for his global celebrity and for his ability to help drive fundraising.

To wit: Davidson men's and women's basketball programs' revised NIL budget goal is now pegged at more than $10 million, which totally changes their trajectory in the NIL era.

Maybe it's time for Davidson to join the Big East!

So you are telling me the players can't spend their own money for their parents' travel expenses?

This offseason will give us a pretty good picture of our NIL situation. We hit our high-water mark last year with a 2 seed and now are sitting at what is probably a good reflection of the team's capabilities, a probable 7 seed. If we manage to keep the band together in spite of a little adversity, our NIL situation is excellent. If we take some hits, then it is time to find a billionaire sugar daddy.

Like Shaquille ONeal said yesterday on inside the NBA most of the players go broke in 5 years after leaving the league. That is why he said he listened to Junior Bridgeman for advice. Also not sure if this is true but afriend of mine who is a Minnesota Dad said he heard Minnesota's best player maybe Dawson got a million dollars. No Austin Powers pun intended.
