The 79th annual Al Smith Dinner will be held this evening in New York City. It is a wildly popular event that has raised millions of dollars over the years for Catholic Charities. The Dinner is sold out with Cardinal Dolan the host and President Trump as the headline speaker. It is a bi-partisan event with politicians of all stripes being extended an invitation. As an example of the high regard in which the event is held, no presidential candidate since 1984 has snubbed the host and declined attending.

Let's hope that all who choose to attend enjoy an evening of fellowship, good natured self-deprecating humor and that a lot of money is raised for Catholic charities. Wonderful event.

Interesting that an organization that was loaded with sexual predators would bring another sexual predator as its keynote.

Hopefully they will tell a lot of jokes.

Some people were surprised Cardinal Dolan would assist with a known sexual predator but I disagree.  If anyone is comfortable associating with sexual predators, it's Cardinal Dolan.  Plus, the Catholic Church will do anything for a buck, it's a business after all.

Al Smith's presidential candidacy was an interesting case study.  As the first Catholic nominee for president, his opponent was able to make hay off that fact.  A great fear ran through the nation the Vatican would control the government and America through Smith and a foreign horde would elect him.

His opponent utilized evangelicals and other denominations to thoroughly defeat Smith with fear and scare tactics along with Smith being "wet", anti-prohibition.

Interesting.  Very interesting.  Glad we've evolved as a society.

Any jokes about the Second Gentleman? Kinda dicey to joke about Kamala's nanny-nutting, woman-beating better half, but I think most anything goes at this event??

No, it was just POLS sucking up to one of the biggest criminal organizations in the history of the world

Who has paid more for covering up sex?  Trump or the Catholic church?

I mean, the LA archdiocese is over $1.5 billion in payouts.  Imagine the payouts from the inquisition

Gaffigan noted this is Trump's second campaign with people grabbing a kitty.

Got a fantastic gasp.

Jim Gaffigan is a sexual predator?

Really? (I don't usually read through all superbar threads!)

I'm sorry, but that Kamaka skit was one of the most cringeworthy things I've ever seen.  Who is advising her?  It would be like me doing a video about compassion for Sinwar.  That was brutal.

As cringeworthy as the Cardinal of NY yucking it up with a convicted sexual abuser, race-baiting adulterer, that vilifies Haitian Catholics?

Just trying to gauge your cringe scale.

Listen, some of you are out of control.   From now until after the election, if you mention a candidate, current president, or even joke about current political events, you'll be forced off the site until after the election.

I've tried to allow some political banter, and issued a few bans.  Right now though, there's too much and I don't want to determine intent anymore.

Thanks.  I was pretty pissed after seeing all the posts last night.  But as the strict rule sets in for people, I'll let the last few posts fly and reverse the ban I already issued this morning, because obviously people haven't read my post (maybe they have me ignored, hah).

Trump nailed it. Hey Chuck, when Kamala loses, maybe someday you can be the first female President.

So...I'm banned if I mention that Trump joked Tim Walz didn't attend the dinner...but will say he did anyway? 😂
Or, Trump joked Kamala didn't attend the dinner because she was receiving communion from Gretchen Wittmer?
Come on, man...that's funny stuff!! No harm no foul.
