I had typed up a sarcastic reply, but instead: I think empathy can only take you so far if you haven't actually experienced a thing. I have to actively learn about what younger people are experiencing today so that I can try to empathize with it, otherwise life is grand in the ivory tower. It's not like I'm that old, I'm a Xennial, but still my life circumstances changed at some point along the way.

Maybe admitting you're out of touch is the first step towards getting in touch?
