With today's loss Marquette unfortunately passes on the torch of Big East Champion to the defending National Champion UConn Huskies.

Possible split still in play for now, but when UConn wins tomorrow it'll be outright.

It was a helluva run as Big East Champions.

If there is one thing that became even more obvious today it's that Marquette is in GREAT hands with Coach Shaka Smart.
This has been apparent for a while, but has come into an even brighter focus in the last month in my opinion.

His ability to evaluate talent, and the right talent for Marquette and his system, and then coach up each and every individual player to be a star in their role is second to none.
Everyone seems to buy in, and as we have seen time and time again when their number is called for an expanded role they are eager and ready to go grasp their opportunity and continue the legacy.

That's how a dynasty is built.
The stars aren't necessarily born and brought into the system, they buy in and are bred in the system. Their individual talents then shine bright, and the teams legacy continues to grow.

Relationships. Growth. Victory.
The Shaka Way.

We can't get nervous or excited about the transfer portal because the future is here.

I'd be willing to bet that before tonight many would argue that Marquette isn't a tourney team next year without TyKo and Oso... Well, guess again.
I'd now be willing to argue that Marquette has as good of a chance to win another BE Championship next season as any other squad in this conference.

Sustainability, repeatability. Get old, stay old. Play for the name on the jersey, play for your teammates, play for your coach, play for your fans, and want to continue that legacy.

The right man in the right program at the right time.

Now cut down the nets one time to make this thing official going forward.
The quick glance into the future is exciting, but the best part is that we've got to fire up for an amazing March and April.

Let's do this.

Thanks for starting a thread about our Big East  championship run being " officially over" before it's even " officially over...........

I think most of us are just hoping our guts get healthy and we can have a great senior day.

Big picture stuff can wait until the offseason........but maybe that's just me.

Someone ban this guy!

It's the reality we live in. It's ok to confront it, maybe even use it as motivation going forward, even this season.

Speaking of Sr Day- I haven't really seen any promotional stuff on it.
Has the program kind of just ignored it for now?
Is it going to be awkward because we aren't sure who's coming and who's going sort of thing or are they clearly celebrating Oso and TyKos last dance?

I think this is why. I'm not sure what senior day looks like now.  What do other programs do in the covid era?

Thanks for the reminder. I took my probiotic this AM.

The simple solution is to just honor them both and if they decide to use the extra year, then honor them again next year. That is what Creighton did last year with Scheierman. Whether they are honored or not Wednesday, it means nothing for next year one way or the other.

I will not be there on Wednesday, but I hope Oso and TK get the proper standing ovation send off that they have earned. I  hoping that both guys are back at the FF next year wearing an NBA jersey.

You're a better man than me Goose.

Although I've committed to the idea that Osasere Ighodaro will be playing his last of many amazing home games at FiServ Forum in a Marquette uni, I've not reached that point of conviction yet with Tyler.

I truly hope Tyler is back in a Marquette uniform next year, leading the Golden Eagles to a b2b Final 4.
It's not because I don't want the man to realize his ultimate dream of playing in the NBA, it's because I want him to realize his ultimate dream of going down as the best ever to play at Marquette and for Coach Smart (while very nicely compensated) AND play in the NBA after that.

Yea I've got no idea who's been passing the koolaid this morning...

Doctor

I would say I am 90% on TK entering the draft and that is why he deserves the standing O. I also hope that he back next year and building on his MU legacy. I think if he has a big tournament it is more likely he is gone and we will hope he does.

DoctorV

Yea I'd set it closer to 70% that he goes but he should be celebrated and get that standing O even if it was a 1% chance

Best part about Scoop as the autocorrect usually gives me good laugh. In this case, it actually made a lot of sense to us seniors.  😂
